Yes my front DS on the ford was that shitty cap design and one of the bolt heads was stripped out that goes into the yoke, what a pain in the balls that was.

Last weekend I got to be lubing my shaft and found this tool to be pretty useful, made greasing the area where the coupler couldn't fit a breeze

    https://locknlube.com/collections/greasing-accessories/products/narrow-needle-nose-dispenser

Tim, any reason you didn't opt for a double cardan joint at the t-case? I didn't notice or maybe missed it, but did you set the pinion angle of the new axle or do they come set up already for the 2nd gen t-case? I would think with a dual case setup and a new axle, you'd have to set the angle yourself since everything is pretty much custom at this point.

One of mine is on the cusp of needing to be replaced because it’s stripping too. Whoever thought a 12 point, 8mm head was a good idea in that application needs a kick in the balls.

I like that needle style grease fitting...may have to pick one up.

I didn’t bother with a double cardan when I had my first one piece DS made. Mike at The Axle Exchange said it wouldn’t make any difference. I had two DSs made by them. Both were vibe free. So, I didn’t bother this time around either.

You could find in this thread somewhere where I spoke about DS vibes after the one piece. That ended up being the front DS after the FJ tube believe it or not

I didn’t end up doing the crawl box. The axle comes with the spring pads welded on, so I assume it’s set to the correct angle.

I guess I will find out soon enough.

My 1pc from Axle exchange vibe'd after 75ish and up and once I had them put a double cardan trying to make up for angles it only made it heavier and worse... it then vibe'd at 60 and up.... went back to 2 piece and Ron is running smooth.

    Love the progress mang

    Felt great power wise.

I’m getting a pretty decent wobble from the wheels I think. Looks like I’ll have to put the Beadlocks away until the day comes when it’s solely a trail rig.

I’m going to throw my spare OEM tires and wheels on to be sure. But, that most likely what it is.

I am getting to undergo some serious cutting/tubbing and appreciate your help. Of note, I tried using dynabeads for the first time in lieu of weights. The good - they actually balance out the wheel quite well and you just need to apply the proper amount according the size tire. This may be offset by the welded rim and have no affect, but it does work well on the tires. The bad - they take a decent amount of centripetal force to get where they need to go. So DD or around town it is fairly awkward and wonky. The highway balances them out well and rides quite smooth. 0-30 (unnoticeable), 30-55 (awkward and wobbly), 55-80 (very smooth, which explains why truckers have such success using them)

I’ll post some pics later of the tubbing process.

TBH, I got in over my head. Jo n graciously came up and pulled my ass out of the fire, making and fitting the panels.

I was overthinking it. Couple that with my lack of patience...

I’d like to believe, that now that I’ve seen the process, I could do it myself next time.

I can weld the sheet metal fine. Getting those damned panels to fit? That’s a whole different thing.
