you buying the whole clam shell to swap in or just the internals to swap into yours?

mike at island automotive center in east setauket might be able to give you an honest price 631-928-0883

I asked him about it in the past and he seemed open to doing it if I had purchased the clam shell for the swap, not sure how keen he would be on the doing the internals but either way might be worth asking for a price and turn around time

Planning on just having the internals swapped. Looking into also getting full sets pre-assembled and just swapping them out myself but its a lot of money to dish out upfront.

yea I hear you on the laying out the core deposit up front, it is a chunk of change.... though it does make the job less labour intensive, I haven't priced out both options so couldn't give any figures.

Yup, just sent them an email to see about getting pre-assembled kits. Ideally that's the way I would like to go and honestly probably hang onto the stock units.

@diabetiktaco this is a picture of the two planks that sit in the two notches that our beds have built in already but without the sheets on ply wood on top

@diabetiktaco if you plan on using it as a sleeping platform I actually also have a second platform cut to size and carpeted that lays right on the tailgate so that when all together you actually get 6 feet combined and can stretch out the legs.

I used this setup when I had my cap tent. Below is an example picture of the cap tent that I previously had.

You suck, I need drawers too. I may take this. Only issue is my fridge slide doesn't tilt. I'm 6'4" but the platform may make it too high. I'll be staying in Garden City Tuesday night..

the drawer was a hand me down that just happened to slide right in under this setup that I am looking to unload, just never really used it much and every time I had it all in there I ended up needing the space frequently and found myself taking everything out multiple times.

when the tailgate platform is there it does make it tricky to climb up and in, I had a small step stool that I would carry when I used this setup to remedy this.

one idea I had considered was possibly only using the ply wood on one side and notching the cross bar nearest the tailgate to be able to slide certain things in and out.

I am out in Stony Brook, about 45 minutes from garden city roughly but let me know, I can try and swing out that way or if one of these coming days or weeks you wanna check out smith point beach we can take a drive out there... always a few people out there fishing for something

I'll be out there for work and won't have much time except at night. But I'll def. take you up on the beach tour. Still trying to figure out where to take my wife out when we're in Montauk.

there are some beaches that you can drive out on in Montauk as well...

the light house and camp hero are two places worth checking out if you have never been there are always a few seals out there popping their heads in and out of the water

also ditch plains is a nice little spot where you can usually watch some people surf

plenty of sea creatures out there also that pop their heads up often, bring some binoculars if you have

I have always had a good time out on some of the local charters also if the budget allows for it, either out fishing or just out looking for whales, sharks and seals.

either the ocean side or the bay side leading into the LI sound, both are nice and if you get there before the summer rush even better, now is a great time to enjoy it without the traffic and riff-raff

Awesome. Going in May. Were staying at the hero beach club for a "romantic" night. Next day I wanted to go exploring on the beaches for "us".

May should be really great out there, just in time before the crazy rush really picks up for the season.

Swallow East is a nice restaurant for the romantic food experience ( small sharing size plates ) so far I have not been let down there... and I complain easily :anonymous:

The Montauket is a locals bar restaurant on the bay side, I highly suggest going there for the sunset!!!

also if you want to pick up a t shirt or sweatshirt as souvenir check out the locally owned and operated store The Whalebone Creative
