1st Gen Tacoma 12" OSR Outboard Shock Relocation - Outside Frame Rails

Slow process but got the shocks on today should get the bed and bedsides on tomorrow and use the forklift for a few flex shots.

 

Here it is in all of its glory. Cant wait to get it on some dirt in the coming weeks and test it out.

So for anyone reading this is archives relocate kit with a tundra axle and his 2nd gen Tacoma lower mounts.

hey Eric, my rear shocks seem to move side to side and rattle while driving would it be safe to put a washer on either side od the upper bolt to stop this?

 

what mounts are you using for the resi?

 

It is bad to leave it as it please send me pics, you may have the wrong size bearing width, 1.25" is common, and the mounts are for 1.5"
Or you could be missing the misalignment bushings

Does the kit from archive come with the bottom shock relocation?

 

Yes, axle tabs included, plus grade 8 flangehead bolts included, kit pics are in post #1

Yes it comes with them and Eric sent me the ones from a second gen as the axle housing is a larger diameter as well as the tundra axle and I put a tundra axle under the truck at the same time.

What travel shock and what leaf pack is that? Not sure I've seen anyone cycle a stock length pack with a shock that long yet.

 

It's a 12in shock on allpro standard leafs.

 

Partly because the axle is so much wider though so it looks like more wheel travel than it is in terms of flexing.

Not that the stock can't flex. I can drop a 35" tire below the sliders with my stock mounted 10" shocks. I'm excited to put this kit in though but mainly for stability. The shock on the outside of the frame will likely net me less flex travel but hoping with 12s it will make up for it. Our leaf packs won't pull more than 10" typically.

 

That’s what I thought, that our packs typically haven’t been able to cycle more than 10” in stock location so even if you could get longer shocks in they still wouldn’t go any further than 10” regardless if you got longer shocks in. Now an f67 pack with the shackle mount above the frame and 10” shackles are a different story, but I thought stock locations and pack can only cycle 10” unless it’s a taller pack which in that case you are typically adding lift to get more travel. But I never cycled my pack personally yet so I can’t speak from experience.

 

far as im concerned theres "two travel types". Vertical and..lack of a better word..Flex. Vertical is both sides up and down at the same time. Flex is one up and one down. They do vary but not much really due to when one is up and one is down, you have the force of the other side of forcing the other side down. Such is solid axle life. Again, not huge differences. But you can see the photo I posted above and the tire is just past the slider. Yet when both are off the ground..
