Lol all this talk about spring rates.

If your truck rides like shit change the valving first. Tune it.

I'm a 1st gen with 700lb 16" coils on a long travel kit and my shit ride amazing and flexes great. Nothing wrong with 700lb coils. Granted mine has literally no preload.

Valve your shit. Change your coils if your ride height sucks. Should be as close to 50/50 up and down travel

What do you guys think would be a good not so expensive way to make the rear keep up a little other than sua for the rear? I heard from one or two people they did a u bolt flip kit and got deavers and 2.5s but I don’t know if that would really do anything? I might have money for an sua install but I really don’t want to spend that money... any suggestions? I just wanna be able to actually use my truck a little but DMZ is still going to happen just not anytime soon cause for one I can’t weld myself and I don’t know a good fabber that’s not gonna charge an arm and a leg for an sua install in south oc...

Sadly nothing will keep up with an LT front without spending nearly as much as a LT rear. I was running a bamf relocation, shackle flip and 12’s pulling all 12” of travel. When I switched to LT up front, I thought the rear could hang decently but I was wrong. One drive and I ended up ordering my dmz kit. If I had bypasses instead of smoothies it could have been better, but like I said, at that point, you are pushing costs that you might as well just wait and save for LT.

Agreed, the dmz kit is the single best improvement suspension wise I have made on the truck. Having gone through multiple other rear suspension iterates, nothing made the ride improve like the DMZ kit

Yep, and you’re better off saving for another 6mo-1yr and doing it right the first time. I’ve been through 3 suspension iterations up front and 4 for the rear, building more and more as my needs changed.

There's a lot to be said about this mentality. To "do it right" you have to experience different setups and what does and doesn't work per application. It's easy to hold off progress on a build due to budget limitations but sometimes it's worth enjoying your build in the meantime.

Oh I’ve only had the one LT setup. I was more saying I’ve gone through several setups along the way as my build and needs/ wants progressed. Started with 5100’s for a while until I drove too hard and disintegrated a valving stack. Then did my mid travel setup with Kings and ucas, and am now with my dirt king setup. Rear went from 5100’s and dakars, to bamf relocation and 12” Kings, then swapped to a shackle flip and allpro leafs, and now the dmz kit.

This is true. I had no intention of ever going full LT, and now I already know I’ll end up with a custom front setup trying to pull 18” of 4wd travel and links out back. As I grew, moved, changed who I wheeled with, and leaned more, my needs of the build changed. Do I wish I went straight to LT and saved the steps and cash, not really because I probably wouldn’t have been happy early on. Plus I have a pretty good understanding of how well each level of build will perform which came in handy with my fiancé’s 4runner build recently. Jumped up to larger tires and needed a lift to help clear them. Knowing she wouldn’t be happy with 5100’s after being used to riding in my truck, we went with a simple spacer lift and saved a chunk of money while we save to get her a good mid travel kit with Kings.

I have been thinking about this and I have a brnad new set of factory leaf springs from the recall so i was going to do the add a leaf for 1.5 inch lift, 10 in stroke bypasses and the TC Kings bumps. This makes sense to me because 1- Im military and currently stationed in Maryland so meh 2- When i do decide to link the rear, which is coming eventually just no need right now unfortunately, the 10 inch bypasses will be rebuilt and moved to the front as my secondary bypasses on my DTF kit.
This will keep costs down and still let me have a little fun! Plus im not rebuying shit!

LT is expensive man. Is that a DTF kit? I'm not familiar with your build at all. But if it is, I'm sure you're pulling larger travel numbers than most of us with a Camburg or TC kit. Almost nothing bolt on or cheap will keep up with your front end. You can go down that road if you want to and waste money on bolt in bypasses and such, but you're honestly just handicapping your truck at that point. I've ridden with guys that had just bolt ons in the rear and LT up front and while the front ate everything up beautifully, the rear felt like complete shit. Save your money, do it right.

Awesome advice guys thank you! That being said I’ll probably save for dmz for a while and do it right.
But for now.... I’m gonna be repainting the truck white, do you guys have any specific whites that you’d want to see on a Tacoma? Oh and it’s a solo kit (+3.5) so I’m just pulling normal 13” numbers haha. Wish I had dtf

Made it out to Ocotillo Wells for the first time in a few years now, forgot how rocky that place is.. definitely need to do some valving and maybe lighter springs up front.

I seitched to the 600lb springs from 700lb and it made a huge difference.

Ride quality is superb whoever I can see where it will be too soft in some areas now.

    Edit: Time to valve

That's where I'm at. Due for a rebuild on everything, definitely needs more compression in both front shocks.

Castor is going to be a bit of personal preference, though I would try to run at least 3*, I am running closer to 4.5*. Camber and tow factory specs.

Can anyone tell me how springs are replaced on fox shocks? Does the spring have to be taken off the top?

Trying to decide if i want to replace springs and go to 700s or give the total chaos sway bar a try.

The truck has way too much sway on the highway and i cant stand it especially when i load up dirtbikes in the back. Passenger shock would still require me to drill out the frozen lower bolt in the allpoo kit so a lot of work to do it vs bolting on a swaybar
