I have it, just waiting on more parts from Can-Back to safely mount it. I also bought some awning mounts from Bomber Products.

Nice!! Can’t wait to see some pics of it with rtt mounted. I was looking into this setup also. I was under the impression that you needed the 4 cross bar version to support 600lbs?

Hey just curious how long did it take for bomber products to ship out your awning mounts??
I recently put in an order myself over one week ago as well, and to my displeasure (mind no notification when purchased) they are now telling me that they are waiting on a shipment of hardware before mailing me the goods....

just wondering if they are being honest with me here or if perhaps they are actually waiting on a shipment of raw material to pump out a new batch or mounts.

Can-back is an awesome product. I had it on my 2001 Toyota Tacoma for almost 9 years then the canvas stitching fell apart. When I contacted the new folks who owned Can-Back they wanted me to be a whole new system b/c they wouldn't repair the old canvas. I don't know what they are like now though so interested in seeing how yours works for you! Congrats!

I waited a couple weeks on the Bomber mounts, they told me the hold up was powder coating. They showed up a week later.

I have yet to mount the RTT because I’m still waiting on Can-Back parts. I ordered them July 16th. The last 2 emails have gone unanswered. I have now traded the Can-Back, plus some $$, to a co-worker for his new Softopper ( he knows all about what’s going on with my order). The next email will be refund my $570 for parts, then a PP dispute. Great product, shitty customer svc.

Now I’m looking into a cage over the Softopper OR if I can score a used cap from Craigslist I’ll go that route. So for now, Bomber mounts, big 270 Kinsmen Hardware awning, and HiVis RTT are on hold.

I really wanted that Can-Back to work out, I do believe it’s a great product.

FUCK yeah can-back. Back when I was looking the wait time threw me off and I needed a topper quick for a road trip (or overland, if you don’t speak normal) so I ended up getting something less awesome. Good pull.

Is the topper well sealed against dust and water?

Obviously the tailgate and bedsides gap needs to be sealed, but does the Can Back for a good seal along the bed and over the tailgate? Or do you find things get dusted up in there?

The Can-Back side rails has foam rubber seals against the top of the truck's bed cap. It mounts to the outside of the truck's bed cap, so most water will shed to the outside before it has an opportunity to get to the side rail seals.

The cab and tailgate panels use 5 magnets on the cab and 7 magnets on the tailgate to hold the panels to the truck's bulkhead and to the top of the tailgate The cup magnets have a 26lb pull directly against the steel, but it is a more appropriate strength after it goes thru the strap material that is used as a cushion. A 3M Paint Protector Strip protects the paint on the top of the tailgate.

The side panels snap to the side rails.

The top panel overlaps the side panels, and the front panels overlap the rear panels: water will not leak thru the joints.

The top panel is Sunbrella Seamark, which is waterproof. The vertical side panels are Sunbrella Plus, which is highly water resistant, but still breathable.

In normal road use, it does a very good job of keeping the dust out. But as the fabric flexes in a wind (or with the truck when it is offroad), it will move and act as a bellows, sucking in outside air and anything that is in it. The flex is minimal as the fabric is heavy material and it straps to the frame whenever it gets close to it. But it is not "zero motion" either.

Congrats on your purchase. I’ve spoken to Brian at Can-Back many times. They now have a design for a storage boot based on a design for my truck that will contain the canvas in a stored position in the front of your bed.
They have so many features that it’s hard to not spend a bunch of money.
I very happy with my top.

Wondering if any of you are willing to give some close-up pictures of the tailgate panel (how it mates to the sides of the topper, and the tailgate itself), and the topper rails and seal.

Also, when you say the sides are highly water resistant, does mean in a slushy winter the topper would potentially seep moisture through to the inside of the bed?

Sunbrella, by itself, is water resistant. It also has a water repellent coating that will keep it essentially waterproof for a period of time. As part of the maintenance, you will need to apply 303Products Aerospace protectant to the canvas about once a year to keep the water beading on top of the fabric. This also keeps the dirt out of the fibers, so it is very easy to clean with just a water hose.

The top panel is Sunbrella Seamark, which has a PVC lining to make it waterproof to handle a melting snow load.

The vertical panels are Sunbrella Plus, which is the Sunbrella material with a polyurethane lining. The plain Sunbrella can seep water thru it if exposed to a lot of water (such as a driving rain or a car wash) or for a long period of time (such as melting snow). As these are the vertical panels, you will generally not have any water or snow for any extended period of time as it will shed down the side. But for the times that there is a water load, the Plus polyurethane layer prevents it from coming all the way thru the fabric.

The tailgate panel wraps around the rear hoop and tucks into a pocket on the side panel. There is a Velcro strip inside the pocket to hold it in place.
The Cab panel wraps around the front hoop and velcros to the face of the side panel. The two side panels sip together, and there is a flap that overlaps the zipper.

The design of the top is that overlapping fabric will shed wind and water to the back and to the bottom of the canvas without providing a pocket for it to catch in.

There is a 1/4" foam rubber seal on the underside of the side rails to seal the frame against the top of the truck's bed caps.

This image shows the tailgate and rear panel corner.

Hey @kamakaedlao, how long did it take for your Can-Back to arrive once you ordered?

I have about 4 phone numbers for Can-Back. None of them work anymore. Do any of you have the support braces? I wouldn’t mind buying them from Can-Back, but I can’t get ahold of anybody. It’d be great to see some close up photos of the bracing so I can build my own.

@Phoenix2000 is the owner and by my guess only person there.

Good luck getting anything. I'd ordered one in September and was told three weeks. Cancelled my order at the beginning of January because I'd still not gotten anything other than lie after lie.

Yeah, same experience here. Followed by receiving the wrong product on the side panels and faulty products for the top and rear panel. I’m just gonna take it to an upholstery shop and have them fix it.

For what it’s worth, if it wasn’t for the problems and customer service, it’s a pheonaminal product. Makes me wonder about directly competing with them. I know it’s expensive, but there’s nothing else on the market like it.
