Well I do pay a lot in insurance, but that's mostly because of my driving history. I changed it when I moved here, so there change in insurance rates makes it hard to tell how much it added.

You can definitely call and get a quote with no worries. Just make sure you have receipts for everything. I figure I'll call in every few months with whatever new parts I've bolted on.

So this has got to be one of the dumbest truck related questions I have ever asked, but here goes...

I have never run anything other than 16 inch wheels before. Always just got a matching spare wheel.

I got some 17 inch toyota wheels on that 40% off sale they had going on and will be mounting 285/75/17 coopers on em at some point. Huge tires... I know...

Anyways, My truck has got 16s on it now which means the steel spare is a 16. If I put a 285/75/16 on the 16 inch spare, the OD of the tire is going to be the same on the 16 inch wheel and the 17 inch wheel right? Like the difference is wheel size only? Id rather not buy another wheel to be honest.

285/75-17 doesn't equal 285/75-16, sorry. I'll try to find a website I've used to compare OD (overall diameter) of different sizes and post it.

No. 285/75/17 is going to be right at 34" diameter. 285/75/16 is just under 33".

Here's that site: If you want same size on your 16" spare as the new 285/75-16 then you'll need to put a 255/85-16 on your spare.

Thank yall for the help, saved me a lot of pain and suffering down the road. I was thinking about going with the 17 inch FJ cruiser steel wheel as a spare, but with that 255/85-16 @SemperHouse recommended, I can just keep my tacoma spare and not spend extra money!

Shit, you're right. You're gonna have to shop around to see if you can find a different model that comes closer, or bite the bullet and go for the 17" spare. Different brands/models will have variations on their OD as well due to tread pattern design.

Ah I gotcha no worries, Its looking like im just going to have to buy a spare. I have been reading that the FJ cruiser 17 inch steelie will work, might just have to carry 6 extra acorn lug nuts. I think the factory toyota lug nuts I have are the flat kind. My current lugs will work on the trd pro wheels I got but idk about them working on the steel wheels.

Yeah they only cover things you have receipts for, but it'll still be more coverage than you have now...

I submitted Amazon receipts for bolts and washers, cable, whatever. Let them tell you no haha
