What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

Found this while poking around under the hood.


Not sure how long this has been like this but had to at least be a few months since the last time I removed the tube was for spark plugs. Not sure how I never threw a CEL. After reconnecting, Idling LTFT dropped from 14 to 9 and while on the throttle dropped from 10 to 7. Nothing like a 30 second fix..

 

I replaced mine when I had the transmission off even though it was far from being worn out, it's right there and the seal is like $15 from Toyota so I did it as preventative maintenance.

Fun Fact: I used a 3" ABS Toilet flange to drive it in.



Also that shaft seal puller is worthless, I gave up and just used a prybar. Screw method didn't work for me.

 

Heads up guys, Rockauto is doing closeout champion oil filters for $.75 each for the 3.4L. Maybe the 2.7L as well I haven't checked. They wont ship to CA.

Looks like the blanchard grinder marks from when it was "machined" but the clutch was only contacting the inside and outside, couldve been warped, lots of heat in that thing by the look of it

 

Yeah dude, its pretty hilarious to see people with big ass blocks in the back.

 

I’m so conflicted with this change but if I want bigger calipers this was the answer.

Just did plugs PCV and cleaned the TB, runs like new.

 

New stance isn’t terrible, but I do like the “before” stance better.
What are your “before” and “after” Backspace numbers?

 

Got wire and gas yesterday, finished welding up the rear bumper and am grinding now. Once that's done, I can remount it and start on the swing out.

 

Before were 15x8 3.25 BS after is 17x7.5 4.5 BS at least I think the trail wheels are 4.5 I’ve heard that and 4.8 but mostly 4.5

 

Changed the oil and found out a PO replaced the drain plug with a 1/2"-20, assuming he stripped it at some point. I wouldn't have even noticed if I didn't try to replace it with a Fumoto Valve with stock M12 x 1.25.

Is it just me or are those new plugs signifigantly longer than the old ones?

 

Forgot to tell you that all the bolts should have the nuts on the inside of the frame, except the drivers front mount. Which that's the one that you have to work around the brake lines in order to install. And the two drivers rear mounts dont have lock washers, you can try putting some on but its hard to get your hands up there to spin the nut on while holding the washer. You may wanna go ahead and beat your pinch weld back some too before installing them. It should work without having to do it (depends on how bad your body bushings are sagging) but it'll rub.

 

Yeah I plan to weld some channel to it and then through bolt to the pinch weld.

 

my tires came in from Amazon via FedEx today. finally can finish my set of 3rd gen 4 runner limited wheels with street tires. mounted them on my harbor freight tire changer and am going to freshen them up with some duplicolor metallic silver.

 

Interesting approach. Must be a jeep thing to bolt sliders to the pw. Post up some pics when you do! Also, thats rustoleum bedliner if you wanna colormatch.
