The water intrusion he's talking about is from the bedrail plastic covers. They are removed to mount the Habitat. If you ever popped yours off you'd see there are a ton of large openings. In his case, he removed the fender liners above his rear tires, and water spray simply sprays up through those holes and runs down into the pickup bed. Not really an issue as long as you still have the liners.

I'm pretty sure the reason for the plywood "floor" is so you have a lot of choices for mounting things without worrying about drilling 47 holes through the plastic bed. You might think "47 holes???", but if you like to modify, or you mark something wrong... it can happen. So far my only holes have been through the bed cubbies. My Battery box I mounted using the existing bed bolts.

Also, the wood allows you to mount equipment over the gas tank where drilling is more difficult.

These are for 3g, some of the complaints on Amazon say didn’t work on 2g without modification.

I wonder which ones (exact brand etc) that AT is running for 2g.

Not Hab related, but my truck got its HD tech deck today.

..i've got quite a few holes in the composite bed material, most of them plugged with caulking. the refrigerator slide platform is still bolted thru the bed x4 bolts, works good, no worries, about a 2x3 foot piece on floor. have minimal 'cabinet' and platform of plywood. i like plywood, but do not want to overdo it with weight. many many ways for dust and water to enter the bed and Habitat, i'm not too worried, just dirty. most recent i'm finding a puddle of water on the left rear corner of the Habitat shell mating section, near the hatch latch...thought it was rain water thru the latch, but taped it shut, still wet...curious...coming from the hinge area....

..i'm not discouraged..not worried about mold. it's a truck. i've not heard any thing good about 'bed-rugs', they might be a good thing, not for me. i use a partial OEM rubber bed mat, cut to fit around my refrigerator cab, i can pull it out to clean, or dry the bed. on top of the rubber bed mat i use several thick foam pads/mats from 'ERGOKNEEL' great for my knees, move them as needed. the plywood is coated in linseed oil and can handle occasional moisture. it's personalized vehicle.

it looks epic.... would love to join these sort of trips, picking up my Habitat later this week and tacoma is already mostly ready for most of the stuff. There is never an end of mods so I need to stop doing mods and start using the truck lol

I’ll be in the San Juan’s this July/August for 1.5 wks.

I had this same issue and found the fix. I noticed the puddles at the rear corners, and immediately thought tail gate. Then found drips forming on he rear mounting bolts above the hatch. Thought it was my adding an awning welt there, but that was sealed at install.

I put a bead of ultra gray permatex rtv in the gap between the Hab’s tent module and walls. No more intrusion. I’ll add a pic when I leave for work in a bit.

Pro-Tip™: Axle/pinion angle shims work great to level a side-mounted awning and space it out to clear the gas-spring.

At least they seem to on mine so far. I'll have to actually test it to be sure tomorrow.

I've always heard that the plastic bed rails' texture does not give a good sealing surface, which is why they pull them off.

Like Swiss cheese. I took them off to mount my WilderNest, similar reasons as the Habitat.

I had my habitat installed the first of February 2019 by AT Overland. They said they do not (they used to but said it is better if you don't on the new Tacomas) and did not remove the plastic rails on my 2018 TRDOR. I have had no water intrusion because of the rails. They only place I have ever seen water is just along the top of the tailgate because it sticks out from under the habitat. I have a bedrug and added P shaped weather stripping along the sides of the tailgate (one piece on the body and one piece on the tailgate/ I also added a small piece at the ends of the bed at the top where it joins the habitat. We had a bunch of rainy days after the install and I've hosed my truck off many times and no rain intrusion. The bedrug is perfect in my opinion. Covers all seams where dust can enter except the tailgate top (now with my weatherstripping).
