After my truck sat put away in my Girlfriend's garage for over 6 weeks, I brought it out this morning to give it some cruise attention for the next week.
Today we went and did our weekly shopping circuit with it.
I got more "compliments" about that truck in one day from strangers than I think I've ever gotten.
Four total. That doesn't seem like a big number but these were strangers who felt the need to say something about the old Tacoma.
My main cruiser is my '16 RX350 and that one gets NO love compared to the Taco. It did when I first bought it but it hasn't gotten but maybe one this year.
Proving to me that our 1st-gen Tacomas are indeed regarded and beloved by all-'round folks in general.
    That's really a nice thing:)
I bet a ton of you all out here, especially who own really clean ones, get the same thing.
I'm proud to be an owner of one of these and I'll always keep this truck in our family.
This was after she got her winter sealant in August last year, and exactly how she looked today since she barely gets out anymore.

I get compliments on my taco occasionally but mostly get ridiculed lol being in Michigan everyone is Ford or Chevy and say "foreign garbage" little do they know, how ignorant they are. That and "how big of a rubberband you got in that thing?" 20190412_204214.jpg

I've noticed a lot of people wave at me when I'm driving the Taco. I didn't realize I was so popular. :)

I guess there's something to where one lives.
I've only gotten one offer to buy it. But tons and tons of compliments over the years. I think folks have come around to the idea these 1st gens are as American as the domestics.
It was a trip to me that I had to post here. You know, it's not a Ferrari, it aint a "classic" or such an unusual type of vehicle. We were only out about 4 hours today-that's one compliment an hour. To me, that says something amazing about this truck we have. I don't live in the "friendliest" area either.
People just love our truck for whatever reasons and I think that's cool.

    Thanks:)
Maybe that it's stock, unmodified, un-messed-with...and being a "clean" representative of our truck. Just the way it sits seems to strike people in a good way.

i am in the same boat with ya, too many very LARGE trucks here for heavy duty tasks such as transporting horses
i am embarrassed to say that i have to pay :spending: for compliments :(

...have not had a random stranger compliment (as far as i can recall) since the summer of '97 at the QT gas pump in StLouis, but she just liked the stripes I think

the car wash attendant recently did appreciate the new rubber i had so that counts for something i guess
i seem to get heckled often though, by the 'detroit' trucks people,
the guy seemed half drunk cruising around the gas lot while i was filling up yelling incoherently in his beat up s10 or ranger

    :notsure:
i do see plenty many 3rd gen Tacomas on the streets, and I am always trying to see if they're checking my little truck out but I don't think they even notice!

Out here in SO. CA., there are so many tricked out trucks of every model and mfg., it seems like every Sailor in the Navy has one, even Raptors are almost common. But somehow, an especially clean Tacoma like the OP's or a Tundra will stand out. I think it's the styling, they're just different from the crowd.

I get offers pretty regularly as well. It's a garage queen for now while I perform a bunch of maintenance/upgrades, but I pride myself in keeping this bitch clean and very well maintained...

Nothing like a bright white engine compartment to make everything stand out, very clean Truck.

How are you not going to compliment an extremely nice Tacoma in excellent condition? People compliment my 2008 all the time, but it's not as clean as yours m8.
