I plan to add the Baja Designs Dome Light w/switch on the bottom side of the frame where the threaded holes are near the rear door on one side. I’m going to fab a bracket that the light bolts to then bolt it to the existing vertical bolt hole. That make sense?
If not we’ll talk about it when I see you there the first week of June when I pickup mine, haha.

In regards to the pivot tube with water in it, how hard is it to remove them? I would imagine some silicone sealant where it meets the aluminum hinge would work fairly well to prevent water from intruding. Or some heavy axle grease. Just a thought.

Estimated date when I ordered was April 22, and that seems to still be accurate.

    Thanks

Sounds like a good spot too

I just realized that I wrote “rigid industries” but what I meant was Baja designs. I just got a white and an amber dome light with switch to try out. I’m putting the white one under the hood, and the yellow will be for area lighting off the gfc, just need to order a few more.

    Those are nice lights.
I’m going to bolt mine to a bracket I’m going to fabricate and mount one here to light the tailgate area for cooking.

    It's DLX son!
I've requested details from GFC on what's involved in removing the tube so I can address the issue temporarily while waiting on a replacement AL tube.

They have been slow to provide any real details but I will share what I find out in this thread.

I have caught mine bubbling out the ends of the tube when it gets full of water and then is parked in direct sun - which makes me skeptical that any grease or wax would stay put very long. Also all the movement means getting a good seal to keep water out would also be a challenge.

I just want to pop it off, clean the rust out the inside, blast it full of paint and drill some drain holes on either end.

Found these on Rago Fab site.
These would be slick if they were straightened out.
Or mount one to a horizontal facing 5/16” threaded hole in the frame.

Does anyone know if there are horizontal threaded holes in the top of the frame near the rear tailgate door?

Rago is pretty awesome. Perhaps shoot Mellissa an email and ask her if they can punch out one and not bend it. Might be one less step for them honestly. Can’t hurt to ask!

Does yours have horizontal 5/16 threaded holes in the rear top frame like the other 3 sides?

Not in the rear tube no. It only has the holes only to attach the roof portion.

    Damn. Haha. Thanks!
If it didn’t those things would work perfect to light up the cooking area.
Might try to give her a shout later to see what she says about a straight one.

Here is a direct link to the mounts if anyone is interested. There is also a bundle where you can get 4 mounts with 4 lights if needed.

    Update from Rago Fab:
Give them a call a few minutes ago and explained to them that I and possibly other owners of GFC’s might be interested in purchasing some flat versions of their rock light mounts for the Baja Designs Rock lights and Dome lights.
They asked that I write an email in explaining this a little more in detail as they’re not to familiar with the campers right now but would be interested in taking a look.
They said they don’t typically do “custom” orders because of problems they have had in the past but are willing to take a look into this one.

    EDIT:
So the real question would be; is the aluminum bracket too thick to put the bolt back in that holds the camper to the frame at the rear hatch?

I think a light in that spot would be annoying for getting in and out of the camper.

If you want some cooking/tailgate light, just put some tape light on the back panel. That way when you open it up, the light is over the tailgate. You could run the wire down the riveted reinforcement pieces.

I've been meaning to do that, but been tied up with other projects.

You might be right. Not sure because I won’t have my camper for a few more months but I can see where raking my back down it wouldn’t be very fun if I wasn’t paying attention.
I think the 90° mount would work on the horizontal holes in the rear corner as well.
I already have the lights since I used to have them mounted under my RCI bed rack. They put out some good light. The switch is very handy too.

I have these, and they seem really high quality. I haven’t had time to install yet though.

    In the wheel wells.

I love what @ace7196 did with his lights and the diffusers in the lower section. I’ll probably copy that. Then I want to emulate the original gfc lighting to make the entire top panel glow.

I dig some of those lighting solutions but when my GFC arrived without the GFC lighting package i just put a few of these...

    https://www.blackdiamondequipment.com/en_US/remoji-BD620719_cfg.html#cgid=lighting&start=17

On carabiners and have been 100% satisfied. I have a small Kovea gas lantern too for when i need to light up a large area.

Check out videos of the Au-cab Khaya campers. They have a killer set of light in all there cabinets. 3 different intensities and 2 colors (red and white). National Luna i think....
