What’s wrong with the washer and dryer that the tech suggested replacement?

They don’t make either of those machines anymore.. he either has a repair bill that is extremely high, part is NLA, or he’s clueless.

Any new machine you buy will be worse built and less reliable than those two. As long as they’re repairable, I’d keep them going until costs are so prohibitively high that it makes zero sense or parts just flat out aren’t available anymore.

Mostly the washer. Door is falling apart at the hinge. Leaks water but it’s in the garage so I’m not too worried.

Also the door seal keeps getting gunned up with shit. Have tried bleaching it and wiping it a few times but it comes right back. Kinda gross. Use those washer machine cleaning detergent things weekly too.

    Dryer is ok relatively.

Suppose I should say “falling apart”

    Otherwise it works great!

Hinge is easy to replace (as is the door piece there). Door seal is a little harder, but not difficult.. unless it’s an LG or it’s stacked.

The door seals always mold like that unless they’re religiously dried, door kept open for airflow and even then you just slow mold down. It still exists in the tub.

I used to charge $365 for a door seal, installed (parts and labor).

    The seal itself isn’t expensive.

I have LG front loaders. They have a shit ton of modes. I use the quick mode frequently and that does a great job. Best of all, the spin modes leave the clothes almost dry meaning less time in the dryer. The down side is if you need to drain the tub, it can be kinda of messy. You drain it to clean the filter.

I've had 'em for 10 years now. Still going strong.

Figure on replacement in the next 2 years, tub bearing on them averages 10-12 years. I’ve seen a couple that were older, but bearing failed.

Usually you’ll hear spin cycle noise increase, and it’ll ramp up the noise with rising RPMs. In bad cases you’ll see plastic shavings in the door seal, and water leaks.

I will look into it. Thanks

They came with the house so I’m not married to them but if I don’t have to buy new ones I’d be happy.

We leave the door open if it’s not in use but, as you say, it keeps coming back.

I like Whirlpool products, they own a lot of brand names, Amana on the lower priced, simple features end and Electrolux on the feature packed high end side.. and 4-5 brands in between. Parts are practically the same, just software and design changes.

LG laundry isn’t bad either, just avoid their refrigerators.

Only thing I’d never recommend is a Samsung.

Hopefully that continues. Sealed system repair is expensive. Make sure you keep the coils clean.

@Crodell6 is an LG factory tech. Shhhhh.

My buddy got his offer yesterday for Concord area. Going to Alabama for a month for training?

All at once, too. That’s a long month.
