What was your situation with needing a new motor. Curious, for obvious reasons.

Vandalism. It was parked at a trailhead deep in the woods for a few days while the previous owner was backpacking. Someone broke into the truck, stole some stuff, and then opened the hood and filled the oil fill with rocks and mud. Motor seized up before the previous owner could even get it out of the woods

Ohhh, interesting, and shitty at the same time. But Nice to know it wasn't due to the motor crapping out for seemingly no reason.

Yeah bummer for the previous owner. Good deal for me though lol! By the time his insurance agreed to put in a brand new motor, he had already bought another truck, so I got a hold of this one with less than 1k on the motor

    I bought this in Feb.'05.

I still remember being one of the only 2nd gens on the road. You can't fall over backwards and not land a 2nd gen now.

Well, fuck. That’s absolutely fucked up. Sorry about the language but how does that even come to mind. Hope they get karma, as I’m sure they do.

This is why I’m always nervous about parking my truck deep in trails so I can hike/ dirt bike. People are the worst, he coulda just stole shit and called it a day but he really wanted to fuck that guy up for no reason

There was a local guy who’s Jeep got stuck, so he left it over night and on the way back with some buddy’s to get it, it was torched

Bought mine in July of 05 and it now has 122K on the clock. No engine tick, no drive shaft vibes, no passenger side leaks, and up to now, no bubbles in the overflow tank.

That head gasket situation plagues me a bit. If it goes, I will drain all the coolant and try Steel Seal gasket repair before I do anything drastic. Steel Seal is not compatible with Toyota fluid so you can't just pour it in, but if you clear the system and use plain water and it works, then you can put back the original fluid and go from there.

I don't how long a successful repair with Steel Seal would work, but it is worth a try.
