TRD/ Magnuson 4.0 Supercharger Tips, Tricks, and Mods

Is there a way to permanently keep Amazon links? Sometimes I see them and when at a later time I go back to reference they are gone. Curious. Some of my mods are split second and some I save for future dates.

 

Go to the link on Amazon, then select “Add to List” button just below where you would add something to your cart. I select Shopping List and that is how I catalogue all the stuff I want on amazon.

I mean like I've had an old school popcorn popper cart in my cart for like 7 years lol. I don't need it, for any sane reason...but someday I think it would be cool to just have in the garage to make popcorn with during parties or something lol. I dunno

 

Alright gents. My header install has once again encountered a problem and at a complete standstill. I was told I ordered the wrong ones even though I was told they’ll work back when I got them.

Fast forward to last night. Major contact with the steering shaft. So instead of forking over another $1500 I was thinking have someone fix the runner that has contact and slice the collectors off, extend the runners, and turn them into long tubes. Yay or nay? This is all assuming I can even find anyone to do this.

 

I bought sir roostfactor #1 y-pipe. I humbly spent 600.00 to make alterations to make it work. Happy every day since. Spend the painful dollars for the blissful joy my friend. My 3 cents.

 

Oh I do for sure. Right now though I'm paying off debt. Short term 'hardship' for long term happiness. Paying off all my debt now means way more fun money for future mods

 

I'm like legit sad today. Dropped off new clutch on Wednesday to the shop, was told Thursday evening maybe, or friday for sure. Finally called today at 230 asking about it....was told I had a leaky brake line (I did), they had the part and would replace and bleed the brakes. Got a call at 515 that it still needed a blake bleed so maybe I can pick it up tomorrow, if not, on monday. I was so looking forward to driving the truck today after a month not being able to lol.

 

There is another option of the Chinese headers for like $500. That’s all I’ve got as far as header options. Just not sure of how well my headers would even hold up with them being modified like so. Would sound mean though. LT headers,V8, blower, high flow cats...

$1500 is just a tough pill to swallow to get something you thought you already got.

 

Is the shaft in the way of install or touching once install is complete?

Two words. Buy American. Jfr y-pipe is a fine example of craftmanship at a value. Same thing in my world people wonder why a handcrafted shower is 10-30k. Because an artist made it instead of foreign careless labor. In my opinion his y-pipe are a great value for the quality. Its expensive to a wallet but great value.

 

Always do whenever I can. I’ve got a lot of FIGS suspension arms, I’m sure you guys are familiar with them. I even called FIGS and asked what they would do in my situation.

I’m sure LT headers would be better in the long run. Would sound and perform better. Still waiting on the word to see if it’s even possible.

Welp, got the truck back, needs a new master cylinder as well, so dropping it back off on Thursday. Big props to Ace Automotive and Performance in Cordelia, their prices are very good. $1350 out the door to replace my clutch, bleed the brakes, and replace my rear diff. He did a couple other little things on the truck that him and I discussed but wasn't on the price, so thats cool.

Come to find out, this noise I've been chasing for the last 3 diffs probably was a bad rear wheel bearing. I just took the truck for a test drive, getting the same sound I thought was my rear diff almost immediately. Came back home and started googling me ass off, come to find out the rear wheel bearings can make similar sounds to a bad pinion gear, and since I just had a brand new diff installed....just ordered 2 new rear wheel bearings and getting them replaced. Ugh. It never ends. Hoping this fixes that noise. If not, then I'm just gonna have to drop it off at that Rear End store in livermoor and let him rip apart everything and find out WTF is going on.

In case anyone was wondering, I get a whirring almost howling sound above 45+ MPH or so, usually around 60MPH i can really hear it. It used to start at about 65mph when i'd let off the gas, I'd hear the whir whir whir whir whir whir slowing down as I slowed down. But now I can hear it all the time when up around that speed. Guessing the rear bearings have just been getting progressively worse and I misdiagnosed as a rear diff. Oh well, that just means I have a perfectly good diff that just got pulled that I can use as a replacement if I ever actually grenade the diff.




Or there's something entirely else going on and this diff is gonna grenade at some point as well. Then I say F it and go bump to a Ford 9"

I wouldn't have gotten where I am today (at least perhaps not without a blown motor) if it weren't for this thread and @12TRDTacoma and all the others adding to the thread.
