    Welcome to TW

The OEM stock cold air intake works as good, if not better than all the others

^ I think he’s right. Pretty sure they come with a factory installed cold air intake.

I also have the TRD intake-No performance gains, no gas mileage gains, but it is pretty...

Are you trying to make more power or more noise?

If the answer is the former, don't bother with a CAI.

Get the AFE filter and then endlessly post your hatred for Toyota for not giving you warranty on your dusted engine!

    :mudding:

Maybe not that hose, but something similar. The key is to increase air volume and flow while reducing turbulence. Aftermarket intakes add very little power, if any, and only on the top end. But they do help increase the amount of air getting into the engine, which compensates by adding fuel. This helps a little on the lower end and definitely helps with driveability and throttle response.

Lol no. You have this thing called the ECU that controls the air/fuel mixture to preset values, depending on temp, humidity, etc. If you change the air volume, the ECU just changes the fuel to arrive at the correct preset value.
    This is not 1976.

Just buy the TRD air accelerator. Add that to the stock box. Part number PTR03-35160-AE. Then add the the TRD air filter. Done

In the coming years if my old stock air box was any indication, the mounting tab for the intake sensor harness will be broken off and who knows what else. The TRD top lid seems to be more robustly built in this area.

All I tried to do was remove the clip and a huge chunk came out with it. This area is papery thin

You're exactly right, it's not 1976 where the ECU would not automatically compensate for additional air. In 1976, you would have to make the adjustment manually or else you'd be running lean constantly. In modern engines, increasing air comsumption increases fuel consumption via the ECU. How else would this be accomplished? I guess they taught me wrong when I got engine qualified in the Navy... Are you saying that the ECU limits or ignores the excess air coming into the engine? How do you explain engines operating at altitude?

Yes. The ECU is smarter than you. It adjusts to barometric pressure automatically. So if you throw a bunch more air in there the engine just automatically adjusts it back to where you have the right mix according to the tables.
As a matter of fact, dyno runs of this Truck show LESS HP with an aftermarket intake and... get this... less HP with no filter element at all! If you want a bit more power then spend a grand on a tune. The tune changes the tables. You are only going to get noise with a different intake. However, some people like noise.

Well I guess I can throw a supercharger or turbo on my engine and not change anything else and nothing will happen because the ECU will magically stop air from going into the engine. Barometric pressure? Get outta here with that BS. And I bet the 'proof' you have about CAIs negatively impacting power is from that one S2000 YouTube video performed by some ass clown wannabe engineers/scientists. You don't know anyone like that, do you?
