Did you recalibrate your shifting with hypertech or are you running the 4.88’s with just the tune?

Have you (would you) considered manufacturing some of these with high flow metallic substrate "bullet" cats? Flow the same as a pipe, but are still functional cats and don't throw CEL...

Well then...enjoy that Taco. Forget about the gas price. You got a Prius to balance it out. :)

    Fixed it for you.

On base tune, 4.88’s and 33’s I saw an average of 20 mixed city and highway (barely drive highway). I thought that was very honorable.
87 performance I’m averaging 15-16. Still don’t care. Shit ton more power. The hills that the base climbed in 4th, performance does in 5th.

Anywho, this thread is going astray again.

I’m 300 miles on 87 performance (ran 87 base for roughly the same amount). I find 87 perf upshifts quick to 5th, then drops to 4th (it should’ve stayed in 4th longer to begin with), picks up speed, then goes to 5th and 6th when need be. That’s my only single quirk.

I’m also geared on 4.88’s and that’s most likely a big reason why. I may or may not have read Mat say that plays a role, since the tune is meant for stock trucks and the geared version isn’t released yet. No biggie for me. Still a shit ton better driving the truck now than on a stock map and heavy 33’s.

I’m patient enough to wait for the updated versions. Keep it up Mat.

My wife probably has 300 miles on the 91 performance tune. She’s never complained about tip in or it being to aggressive. I didn’t tell her what tune is in it. She just drives it and it goes!

Performance tunes with softer tip is a planned update.

Still waiting on my order, but scouring this one daily. Is it really that difficult to control the perf tune in stop and go? I drive in extreme bumper to bumper 5 days a week (D.C.) but I am used to cars with overly sensitive throttle.

Where I live, the spread on 87 to 91 and 93 is about 60 cents and 80 cents a gallon respectively.

Since we’re both in DC, for reference I’m doing 43 miles a day during rush hour on both ends of day on the beltway

    I would say about $50-$60.

Edit: I’ve been here for 16 years and I happen to like it. I know it’s not for everyone, but it’s home for me. I’ve also lived in about 6 different areas of the city so I have a lot of different perspectives and there are some trash areas for sure.

Maybe you never flashed anything. You have to go to your download folder or where-ever you put your downloaded tunes and chose one for p5flash. It will ask you to chose a tune. Then you click flash it and sit back and watch the progress take place. Then you will get a confirmation. BTW - I think your doing great! Keep at it.

Fyi if you get get an error box, says something like “error flashing software” or something along those lines, just try to reflash the ECM. I’ve had it happen before. Second time tune takes.

The red line it didn’t take. Green line it did.

It requires a soft touch. Some, like myself, like it more than others. IMO, the benefits of the performance tune make up for the aggressive tip in.

I used to find 87 perf tip in a bit aggressive but that fixed itself after a tank of gas. Now 87 perf plus ect is like a wild horse you are trying to tame.

93 ect must be crazy lol.

Did all these folks complaining about the Tip in or the aggressiveness forget that it’s a “performance tune” you still have the option to use the normal tune. People are asking for a lot here IMO. There are different tune options for your particular use. I think people forget what “PERFORMANCE” really means... I’m completely satisfied with how the 93 performance works, feels, throttle response. Etc. learn to drive the truck. With every flash it’s your choice and you have to know it’s going to be different than the last. Heck you even have the option to do a normal 1.05 87,91,93. Be happy there is options people.

C’mon you guys...You get tipin driving a hemi Cuda or a 427 Vette not a little Tacoma. My wife drives a 454 Suburban. My Tacoma is running the 93 gearlock tune. We live in Ca. No 93oct so have to boost every tank of 91 Premium.Gas here is around $4.13/gal due to summer gas blend and refinery shutdown (BS STUFF). My wife and I both drive the Tacoma. We’re both 71.
