Noob to tacos but not to modding vehicles. Most late model cars receive little to no gains from a cai. That 10-15+ hp gain advertised is marketing wank for the fast n furious fans. Forced induction is another story tho....

Dude. Search. Several have run dynos on the 3rd gen Tacoma with aftermarket intakes. One guy did three runs, stock, aftermarket and no filter.
Now, for the turbo or supercharger application... there is none! If there were, there has to be a special tune that will over write the stock ECU tune to go with it.

What... you think you can just throw a supercharger on and it magically knows what to do? All the tables change man.

As far as barometric pressure, the ECU will measure air density and do it's best at altitude by leaning it out, but it has presets in a table. It won't do anything that is not already programmed in the ECU and that means more air or more fuel.
OV Tune has been quite successful with the Tacoma tuning and it was not easy.

Bottom line the truck does not know what to do with more air or more fuel. It just defaults to it's original settings and won't let more air or fuel in. Ever wonder why Toyotas are really reliable and durable? Because it does not let backyard jacklegs fuck with the important shit. ;)

Talking about turbos and superchargers on this engine shows exactly how much you know...

I saw a dude hook up a leaf blower to his intake and it gave him like 80hp and 30ft/lb torque.

    So much air bro

Sarcasm... Y'all need to look it up. But in true TW fashion, everyone in the tribe comes out to defend their cyber girlfriend, regardless of how wrong she is. I'm not defending any HP gains, superchargers, turbos, or any of that crap. I was explaining to Mr. Barometric weatherman that increased air volume and decreased turbulence will have an effect on our engines as well as any internal combustion engine. It's science.

I know a bit about science lol.
But, hey you may be right. I've only been an engineer since 1989 so I still have a lot to learn.

An engineer...? I manage a bunch of those. Some can't even figure out how to pour piss out of a boot with the instructions on the bottom. What kind of engineer? Cause my mechanical engineers don't know jack about electrical theory. And my EEs don't know jack about civil engineering. But hey, I'll take your word for it since you've been keeping it real since 1989.

Wait a second you first said the ECU is super smart and now just said it doesn't do anything except the preset table and does not adapt. So which is it? Its smart and adapts to changes or will not change what it does, allowing more air over fuel?

It's smart enough and it has a lot of tables lol. My whole point is more air means nothing without a tune. Just because you give it more air does not mean it will use it.
I truly need to stay out of these threads.

Hey @choose for me I have had the privilege of working with the Navy on several special projects over the years. Good bunch of guys.

Sorry, man. I f'ed up your thread, your first one at that, and didn't represent what we're supposed to be doing here on TW. I still stand by my recommendation, but don't let my shenanigans shy you away from future posts or seeking advice.

Is it wrong to say that it doesn’t matter what kind of intake you have because the throttle body is still one size. It’s only going to allow the same amount of air into the engine as it’s designed to allow.

All you get from an intake is noise because it’s open filter not in a box.

OP lights fuse, and walks away, admires the blaze from a high post outside the city limits, where the glow of the burn lights the night sky.

I just find it hilarious everyone in here is using barometric pressure wrong... like, your Tacoma doesn’t give a fuck if a storm is coming lol.

Edit: well fuck me just learned our trucks have barometric pressure sensors, honestly thought they’d just use 02 and MAF to get those readings.

Having supercharged a newish vehicle, u are correct. The actual supercharger head unit is just one of the components. On my 2004 mustang I had to change:
    Bigger injectors
    Maf range extender
    Bigger fuel pump
    And a custom dyno tune

Simply bolting on the sc, the vehicle will run, but should babied until it is retuned. The ecm’s Parameters can’t account for going from 0-9 lbs of boost.

All of your spark advance and fuel tables need altered.
