Sport wheel lug nuts

    Just swapped out my 16” steel wheels and tires on my 2015 Tacoma for a set of 17” Sport wheels from a 2017 Tacoma. Getting an alignment and tire shop says steel wheel lugs are not the correct lug nuts for the sport wheels. Any ideas on where to get the correct lug nuts as well as torque specs?

    All the usual diesel truck mods- fuel system upgrade, programmer, CAI, intake manifold, j hooked waste gate
    Yes that’s correct and absolutely not correct nuts for that wheel. eBay and Amazon all day long along with local parts stores.

    I also switched out my steelies for some 3rd gen trd rims and you’re correct you need different lugs.

    :eek: The tire shop told you it was OK to run tapered seat lug nuts on a mag lug nut style wheel? You better find out who their liability insurance company is.

    @Muddinfun 's right.

    You can use shank style (square with a washer) nuts on a steel rim, but you cannot safely use tapered nuts on a alloy rim.

    The tapered edge will fuck up the aluminum and mush it around.

    Put the different wheels side by side, look at the surface where the lug-nut seats, look closely at both types of lug-nuts and you'll see..

    6inch lift sitting on bilstein coilovers. Lexus is300 studs in front to keep stock wheels, general grabber red letters, nfab front bumper.
    Steel wheels are tapered where the lug nuts go to get a snug fit, aluminum Toyota wheels have a wide hole for a shanked lug nut. Do not use the wrong lug nuts with these wheels, impossible to torque down correctly. The lugs will chew through the aluminum when trying to torque even to the 76-89 foot pounds it calls for.

    Just put these on my stock TRD 16" alloys. Stock lugs were all messed up as they were steel with chrome caps. New are black and look great even with the silver alloys at $23.99 next day. All the auto stores sell them at slightly higher prices - if 4x4 remember to get 24 set not a 20 set. Most list as 13/16" but in reality are 21mm so stock size tools work. I use a deep 21mm socket 6 sided.

    Where did the TPMS sensors come from and who programmed your truck to recognize them?

    3rd gen sensors won't work with a 2nd gen truck. Also, even when you get new to you sensors, somebody has to program your truck by plugging into the OBD2 connector.
