I had a Bulldog autostart in my last truck. Ripped it out when it malfunctioned and wouldn't let my truck shut-off. It was a piece of crap. IMO I would just spend the extra bucks on something better.

Then you have to get the bypass module... then you have to get it installed, etc.

I got a 5901 with bypass, dual zone motion detection with a custom bypass switch, back up battery, pin switches on the tailgate and hood, and a glass break sensor installed, tax paid, and out the door for $615.

POS!, I install professionally and it took me 30 minutes to figure out how to get the remote to program to the unit. When I finally did, the range was about 15 feet. Stay away!!

I wouldn't imagine their remote alarms are much different then their remote starts.

lol well to me i never really needed remote start. my friend's 09 RAM has it. I gotta admit its pretty neato to get into a cold (or nicely warmed up) interior. but other than that i dont have a need for it

I spent 4 winters in Fairbanks, AK. -40 degrees sucks. I'll have one put on to my Taco as soon as I can afford the 700 dollar price tag.

If you got quoted $700 for a remote start go somewhere else. I use Viper products and for your truck with the 2-way system wouldn't be over $500.

Actually it depends on how many extra senosor, sirens, and crap he wants to add. If he wanted window control, motion sensor, glass break sensor, mercury tilt switch, etc. it would cost more. $700 is easy to surpass with options; however for a base system which is simply the bypass unit and the main unit it should only be $400-$500 and $500 is very high IMO.

You're right about the extra sensors except for the merc tilt switch. I give them to every customer that I install one for, they cost about $3. Maybe $500 is high for where you live, I work in one of the most expensive areas in the country. Some of the shops around me start at $500 for a car with no anti-theft in them. The units are around $200 at my cost plus $25-$75 depending on what bypass is being used so for that amount of time that it takes to install one of those $500 is pretty cheap...Again, that's with Viper products, I can do an autopage or compustar for around $300 but they're not as good quality IMO.
