Garmin Map Updates?

Hi Ya'll.....

We have a Garmin Nuvi 660 and interested in knowing more about updating the maps in it. I was doing research and just updated the software. But now, interested in the map updates.

Is it really that expensive to update the maps? I've seen pricing upwards of $60 or more. If that's the case - I'd probably just buy a new (and better) GPS.

Or am I missing something?

 

I think garmin has lifetime map updates for 59$

 

You'll probably have to pay for a map upate. I do that with mine every year from Garmin.

Damn... this thing is several years old. I'll probably just continue to use it 'as it' until a rainy day and I feel like spending some money.

That lifetime updates for $60 - is that only for the current GPS you own? OR would that apply to any Garmin GPS that you buy for your lifetime?

 

I would guess it only applies to the current GPS. Oh and is that $65 from the garmin site? I thought I looked last year and it was something like $110-$120 for a lifetime update.

 

That's what I'm doing but it got me in trouble when I came across a road that no longer existed and the detour route wasn't on the map. A few U-turns later and a lot of 4 letter words and I was back on track!

 

my parents just bought a map update for their garmen on Amazon and it cost them about $100 IIRC.

 

This what happened to us a couple of nights ago. We had to pick up my SIL at Dulles Int'l Airport. Coming from Richmond driving up north I 95, reaching Sprinfield-Franconia area the road with new overpasses screwed up the nav on my garmin. Yup, a series of "recalculating" and U-turns and a few choiced 4-letter words I was back on track.

Garmin updates are cheaper, try the nav system on Honda's Odyssey and it will give give you a WTF moment.

I might just buy a new Garmin once I have enough clams.

i am actually updating my old nuvi 350 right now, go to garmin.com and register ur gps and it will tell u what updates are available. It is really easy and there was a free update for mine that expires october 2010, that may seem soon but the thing hasn't been updated for 4 years and i have made it fine lol so this is great

I saw somewhere you can get the lifetime updates for 60$ or so. I cant remember where or the exact price, but i know it was under 75$ because i was thinking it was a heck of a deal.

Maybe i saw it on slickdeals.
