Ever get focused on a Mod, only to realize as you are most of the way through the project, that you don't have any need for it actually?

    :anonymous:

    Sigh.......

So I grabbed those bedrail quickfist mounts from STacoS (thanks man!). I knew they probably wouldn't work in my bed without a bit of ingenuity. I have a platform, and I figured the mounts would be too tall for the bolts to go into the rail and sit above the platform. I was right. So I'm looking around the garage for ideas on how to beat the problem. I see a piece of 3"x36" steel sitting on my bench, and I think, "I'll make some riser plates! That will lift the brackets up high enough to be above the platform."

So I go about measuring, cutting, drilling and bolting up the riser plates to the mounts. I figure with the small lip on the inside of the canopy, I'll have to use some washers as spacer to get everything to mount to the rail. No biggie, I have a ton of those laying around. I also figure the mount's "return leg" will float off the bedside a little bit because of the riser plate and washers, but I'll determine how big an issue that might be later. I figure I can use more of the steel to make an extension on the return leg if needed.

    s2AEnJcQQruPX6dH8mZvqw.jpg

As I'm in the back of the truck figuring out how many washers I might need, and before I rattlecan the plates, I ask myself "Self, just what EXACTLY are you planning to put into these quickfists?"

    :annoyed:

Yeah, kind of a failure in planning right there. My pulaski and shovels are already mounted on the other side. I guess I could mount my Hi Lift over there, I just think those small quickfists would fail quickly (a tiny #10 machine screw to hold that heavy thing?!) . I guess I could use these as a base for a more sturdy Hi Lift mount.

But anyway, now I have a solution looking for a problem..... :frusty:

I did kind of the same thing with the spare tire mount from under the truck. I made a bracket for it to mount to the bed rails and realized I wasn't hardcore enough to be running a spare on the swing out and a second in the bed so I just put it on a shelf to collect dust.

You could drill a hole in the center and put a larger bolt through and use a wing nut to hold the hi-lift.

Fellas, whatcha think. I'm considering buying sliders. Seriously built custom job. 250lbs for the set. Boat skid indesruct style. Yes or no. Priced right but I pay shipping. Yeah, I know its gonna cost. Thoughts?

Sounds very heavy. Not sure how much my xo fab sliders weigh, but I'm sure it's nothing near that. Once you had skid plates, and my opinion there's no point in having sliders if you don't have full skid plates, you got a lot of weight not to mention anything else you add.
Having said that, I probably have about five hundred pounds worth of modifications on my Tacoma, and that doesn't even include a rear swing out bumper at this time.

Well, I see you have the supercharger! That's something I failed to purchase when I bought the truck. In hindsight I wish I would have.
It may not be too bad with the supercharger, it all depends on how much other weight you're going to add, how big your tires are or how big are going too, and if you plan to regear. If you haven't already.

Gears soon. But I'm at about 400 at the tires. Yes, extremely high for this truck.

I'm on the extreme end of performance for tacos. I push over 10lbs of boost. Just want decent. Side bars/steps.

    All the things!
Nope... the 2nd gen will be too short. Height, not length.

The 3rd gen has taller bedsides.
