No. I don’t understand why people keep posting this and betting on it like it’ll happen in the next five years. The practicality of these trucks isn’t in the desires nor reach of your average joe. They’re just a luxury vehicle like Tesla is, and doesn’t replace the gas combustion engine. When those vehicles can get close or over 400 miles on a charge and can recharge the battery in under 10 minutes they might start to be appealing, ifffff they have an attractive price tag which most higher end EV’s such don’t and won’t for a long time. Maybe by 2030 you’ll see them emerge more into the market, but I can’t see the current US infrastructure supporting such a change.

    Aside..yes Toyota needs to add a handle:rofl:

@Teter808 saw a billboard promoting electric vehicles and it said "it's the future". It sounded very hipster and not for me. Electric vehicles are a warranty nightmare. There was a recall for the 2010 Prius for electrical overheating and read that these cars are still electrically overheating.

No. Prius is the #1 cab where I live. The cabs run 24 hours a day with three shift drivers. Every time I take a Prius cab, being a Toyota guy, I ask the driver how they like the car and how reliable it is.

Without exception, they say “best cab ever......extremely reliable”. No gas Tacoma would suffer 24/7 cab duty, so get outta dodge.

Dinosaur people with dinosaur thinking will cling tight, but the curtain is closing. When you start having to order gas on Amazon, you will concede. I agree it’s not happening tomorrow, but it is happening.

Id be down with a real hybrid truck. It'd be awesome.

I don't get people either. They fight against electric motors, then use clutch start cancel to pull themselves up and out.

The battery life and cost is up to the engineers to figure out. When it's ready, they'll let us know

Their 185kW model is being marketed to achieve 400 miles. they are going into production next year. Like everything else its a series of trade off's. And for you those trade offs are not worth it. Which is totally fine. But I think if you were to compare it to other ICE vehicles in the same price range ($69k) which would be the top end of most of those options (thinking raptors and rubicons) my gut tells me they would be outperformed by the RT1 because the motor at each wheel and toque vectoring.

Unpopular opinion: I love love love this thing. It's just my kind of ugly. Four motors. Air suspension. Innovative storage features. If this company is even close to being real (see: Fisker Karma), I'm in (in about six or seven years, I'm no fool).

I'm with you. With a few minor mods, I love to see this thing run through King of the Hammers.

Maybe here that is an unpopular opinion, but I think elsewhere it would not be. The range is comparable to or better than an ICE on a single "tank" and the torque is insane. The downsides are the price and how quickly you can charge it. I thought they were saying they had some ability to charge very quickly though, so maybe the second point will be moot? If price was more comparable to our trucks, I'd definitely be considering one of these!

On a more serious note, I thought this thread would be about the new TNGA platform they are going to base the next gen Tacoma and Tundra off of. That might actually not be a bad idea to start a 4th Gen forum to contain news and rumors for that as more info leaks out.

I see enough Teslas around that my range anxiety (at least by proxy) has decreased significantly than when electric cars were total novelties. I'd expect to see a lot more stranded Teslas and Leafs (errr Leaves?) if these electric cars were really that hard to charge (although there was one time my boss forgot to charge his leaf and ended up sleeping at the office).

I think that if I had a long road trip, I could work in an hour to charge and use it as a meal break, whatever, it's not that disruptive. What I'm more concerned about is that the typical destinations that I would take my truck (i.e. the middle of nowhere) will take years or decades (or never...) to actually have charging infrastructure. Then what.... ?

You will haul a charge pack, similar in size to what your know have for a Jerry can. It will give you another 80 miles or whatever. Like an overgrown battery booster.
