This is always brought up when electric trucks are talked about, but it's not like you have infinite gas in a conventionally powered truck. If you are by yourself and ignore your gauge (ICE or electric) and run out of "energy", either way you are screwed. You have to plan your trip around whatever range you have. And the way it stands, the R1T will have 400+ mile range whereas our trucks are lucky to get 300 on a tank. So if anything you are better off out the door in the electric. I would think they could also even create extended batteries that go in the bed or frunk to give you extra range or portable emergency batteries/chargers like @Stocklocker was saying.

Yeah but what if I end up using that pack to power my 60inch tv. Then what?

Yeah, I am old school and would lament having to get one of these because toyota thought the next gen should be green.

Did you notice the “water crossing” looked 1” of water.

How would you engine break? Or just slide down a hill instead.

The engine braking is insane on electric vehicles. They use the energy to recharge the batteries. Diesel locomotives slow down the train using electric braking.

Submarines are electric. Technically, if fully waterproof, you could drive an electric truck on the bottom of the ocean as it does not need to breath air.

I will begrudgingly get one if I have too but not before. Like you said, it will probably go that way, but if they do make one, make it like a Tacoma and not an electric ridgeline. Guess I am part dinosaur.

I doubt it will be anything we have to worry about in the next few years. The advantages, when they are realized, will make you want to buy one. That’s the thing......you’ll want it, because it’s going to be better in all ways, if done right.

I do get on occasion the opportunity to drive my sisters prius and my mother’s hybrid Camry. I don’t like the antiseptic feel of the throttle. On the road that is probably ok, but when I need to feel it going off road, I feel more sure footed.

Does anyone think the road feel through an electric is as good or better. I don’t get to drive electric enough to know.

I think it’s more what the goal of those vehicles is. They make electric dragsters.

To each his own. I my self don’t like the styling. I think it’s the featureless front end. But I bet that is one of things that make it efficient.

Start-up companies always have to make somewhat weird or ugly cars to stand out. They are looking for investors and press and discussion.

If the thing looked like the new Ford Ranger people would glance right past the online articles, or feel the urge to yawn.

This Rivian is not meant to appeal to you or to me. It’s meant to be noticed.

Same reason Toyota saves is utmost ugliest styling for its Lexus line. Lexus owners want you to know right away they own one.
