I have a small bullseye in the center, 2/3 of the way up of my windshield.

40 mph road, semi truck coming from the opposite direction threw something up as we crossed paths. Sucks ass, as my truck is perfect otherwise. Luckily it's not in my direct line of sight so I don't notice it so bad.

It didn't even seem like it hit that hard. First time I've had this happen in the 20 years I've been driving.

2019 4Runner has a small chip in safelite took care of the 4 day we had it. Scratch the hood up too a little. Our 2011 4Runner had a few chips safelite took care of. It just happens. My 2016 Tacoma has a small chip in the windshield and on on the back passenger window due to the grass ninja(prisoners weed wacky on the side of the road).

Agree cheaper glass on Taco -- I have a mercedes with acoustic glass (many new german vehicles have it) for sound etc. last week a rock hit my windshield so hard I thought I was shot at and almost drove off the road. (bad neighborhood) anyway got home wiped off a bit of debris- slight pin head mark on glass is all it left.

I have read other threads here and they say it is the angle of the Tacoma windshield.

And the JL's are currently having this same issue. We even have a "cracked windshield club" thread.

If you had it replaced 4 times now was it always by Toyota or an aftermarket glass company ? If the latter it's bad luck then no and not a Toyota issue ?

Windshield glass is windshield glass. It all has to do with the angle in which the windshield sits and the angle/force of the incoming rock or whatever decides to hit your windshield. Toyota doesn't make windshields. They are made by the same producers that make "aftermarket" glass.

That's not a fair comparison. German cars (BMW and Merc at least) typically have softer glass. This means they don't crack as easily, but they pit much worse than other marques. I've had several higher-mileage BMWs that have taken loud hits and shrugged them off, but they look like a moonscape when driving under street lights at night. I keep hoping one of those rocks will finally crack it so I can get an insurance replacement...

Manufacturers can source many different grades of glass. A BMW 8 series windshield is different quality than a Kia Forte.

I think the much bigger problem is manufacturers aren't required to put rear mudflaps on cars anymore. Most lease now so no rear flaps are going on anything.

That's insane. I pay $80 a month here in Ottawa. And I upped it from $75 to have $2 million insurance.

Just to add. I never had rocks cause windshield issues. Then I got one bad crack that expanded and two other nicks. 0 deductible in Florida with state farm. I am gonna try to be more careful when I get mine swapped out next week. I was heavily accelerating with most of them

I've never cracked a windshield in my 26 years of driving. Had the Tacoma 5000 miles and get a crack.

I've had my truck for nearly 2.5yrs - and I'm on windshield #4. I don't do anything crazy, and have been driving the same roads / style as I always have. And the prior 20 years of driving, I had to replace exactly 1 windshield across many vehicles. These trucks don't deflect debris - a deflector/shield seems to help SOME but overall the square front end of this truck doesn't create enough aerodynamics to help push debris up and over the windshield. The glass is also pretty brittle based on my experience so we have both factors working against us...

I'd still rather drive my Taco than a Ridgeline - though with it's minivan front-end, it probably doesn't suffer from windshield cracks nearly as easily as our Tacos. But. It's a Ridgeline...

It is insane. And we only have 1 insurance company, so we dont get to choose.

THis is so true. My jk glass got broke as soon as I got off the exit ramp after purchasing it. It had maybe 2 miles on it.

don't change it out try one of those cheap repair kits, chances are it will hold up for years before having to change it out. https://youtu.be/qhrqjBQTauY
