Interesting weekend. If TB gets swept or loses, that will be hilarious. Especially that dude in here being an idiot after every regular season win lol.

Pens look like garbage. Props to Trotz for getting that team to play discipline and wait on the Pens to make stupid passes etc. Pens force the play so much and have zero structure. It's actually comical watching them try to force the same passes every time, in transition. And they pinch the D at the worst times and never learn from it. Good job, Sulli.

Kadri is a moron, not sure how you can defend him. Ya Debrusk is running around a bit, but blatant cross-check to the face is idiotic. Matthews needs to get going. So far, he has a bit of a reputation of disappearing in the playoffs. This year, he's not even the main focal point, so he needs to get going.

Jumbo prob gonna get a game too. That series is good. Sharks got screwed in Gm2 with that no goal / interference penalty. MAF is like way above the crease, so not sure how you call off the goal AND give a penalty there. But Vegas looks like they got to their game now, so Sharks could be in trouble.

Kadri is an idiot and should get a suspension. All I said was the media is running with it and exaggerating it. It was a cross check to the shoulder and stick that barely touched his head and Debrusk acted like he was shot to sell the call. If he actually were cross checked in the head he would be out a minimum 7-10 days (whatever Boston concussion protocol is I don't know) because he would have been actually out. But he will play the next game. After blatantly kneeing Kadri its frustrating as a fan to see him get off with nothing. But Kadri is the 3Rd line center so if the team is leaning on him for a win they already lost. JT and Matthews need to step up, which at home I expect it

Very true. Vegas is getting some really good chances but Jones is just off. This whole year he has been unlike himself and seems like he hasn't found it in the playoffs. I don't know that team like you but I am pretty sure Dell can't really be trusted to take over either?

    You better report me .

How about we take your advice and just enjoy game 3 tonight? I'm guessing it'll be better controlled by the officials and both teams have a chip on their shoulder, should be good.

One hundred percent agree. The penalty Kadri is going to serve will not meet the crime, unfortunately, but he deserves to be punished. You can't crosscheck people in the head.

Guy at work is a habs fan said something interesting to me this morning. He hates Kadri but he said "I would be curious to know what would happen if Kadri had given the Knee and Debrusk gave the cross check". Got me thinking. I bet Naz gets two games for the knee and Debrusk one game for the crosscheck

No matter what Kadri would get more games because of the history. I mean you can even see it in this microcosm that the average hockey fan wants Kadri hung out to dry on any suspension, so you can guess the league does too.

My initial thought was what happens in that game if the obvious playoff calls were made? What if DeBrusk got 2 minutes for tackling Kadri? What happens if he gets 2 minutes at least for the knee? We probably aren’t having this conversation then, but those calls were let go and it was up to Kadri to retaliate in a way that didn’t put him in the press box for the series. He failed to restrain himself enough and so here we are.

Here is something for all fans. This guy is a moron but he has some really good data on different things. This graph while a bit confusing shows the relationship of penalties called for/against. It sums up the fact that refs almost always dictate the game with "even up" calls and that drawing penalties is not a skill anymore because it's in the refs hands. Apparently this data was already on the radar of many and should be talked about more

One thing that got lost in the clusterfuck on this thread, the Krug injury was one hundred percent preventable. If you wear your chin strap with more than a fingers width between the strap and your chin you’re going to get messed up when your helmet pops off during a physical play. What an idiot.

I’ve always said on here that guys in the show don’t actually call the rule book, they try to call the game which is ironically the opposite of what is taught at every level up to the NHL.

This is the classic chippy team (with some skill players too, obviously) versus the mostly finesse team. It a battle in NHL playoffs for eternity, so it is nothing new. Sure Boston is going to pull some bullshit and sometimes get away with it. But the Leafs just have to be smart. Under no circumstances is cross-checking a dudes head going to benefit you or the team. Blow him up on a clean hit or something or drop the gloves. No different than Pens /Caps most of the time. Every year for 3 years straight you had blatant dirty plays by a Cap player (Orpik, Niski, Wilson, Oshie etc). You can't fall into the trap. The Leafs will never win that series if they play that way.

You're missing a part of what he's saying though I agree it doesn't change what the Leafs have to do. They have to keep to their game, speed and skill, if they're going to beat Boston. The Bruins actually took a worse battering then the Leafs from the last game. Krug is almost certainly out and Clifton is probably a game time call. If either play they won't be anywhere near one hundred percent. The more speed Toronto can force into the game the worse what's left of the Bruins D will look and the better the chances are that Toronto can bounce back in game 3.

As for what you're missing @AJH387 it's that the Leafs aren't just one of the least penalized teams, they also tend to draw less calls even against heavily penalized opponents. It's come up a lot in the media and it's a trend that seems to indicate that certain teams are getting a different game than others based on the officials, which isn't the role of the officials. That's not something the Leafs can change obviously so they just have to do what they can do. It comes back to consistency and I think most would agree that the NHL has become too inconsistent with the way the game is called on the ice.

Yes I agree with that. I wasn't really arguing that point. I'm just saying I think we see this type of thing a lot with certain match-ups in the Playoffs. Like during LA's runs, I felt like they got away with a lot of BS like questionable hits, borderline interference. They were able to lean on that and not get called for it. It was an advantage to them and hurt some of the teams that they played who weren't as physical etc. But Toronto just has to fight through that because it is what it is. It is very frustrating though.
