Well you just answered your own question. Salvage due to hidden damage. It would cost too much to repair or hold too much liability, so the insurance totals it out to keep from having future problems. These people then buy it from auction, put a half ass repair job on it and sell it. You see a good looking truck on the outside, but deep down she has a dirty secret that you will only figure out once you are committed.

its almost always frame damage, or it was flooded.

The real clean ones that you cant find anything wrong with are flooded!

Nahhh, I have driven the ecoboost and don't really like it for a truck. I would drive like an ass all the time if I drove that. I try to save driving like an ass for the cobra. I like pedestrians, curbs and guard rails.

Seriously though, this forum is way better than any of the F150 groups, they are terrible. Tacoma world has to be one of the best, friendliest and most helpful places there is. Plus all the people that put products out there to customize these things, it's phenomenal. The F150s are like....we have color matched mirror caps and badges.

We should petition to get an F-150 section here, like there is for 4Runners/Tundras/FJ Cruisers :crapstorm:

Resale value, a salvage title Tacoma still brings in good money. A salvage title F150 is less likely to be worth the shops time to repair.

A huge of amount of fords and f150s are fleet vehicles. Usually companies and their insurance require you to have a good driving record so less prone to the driver causing an accident opposed to a civilian vehicle

Maybe a lot of teenagers (inexperienced drivers) drive them.

My dad always used to say the fastest car on the road was a Ford Ranger.

Body shops are riding the crazy Tacoma resale wave, can't blame them for that one. There are plenty of careless uneducated people out there ready to fork over large amounts of cash for overpriced used and salvage Tacoma's.
It's all about the monthly payment for most. At least those are in California, rust belt trucks make even less sense but still sell..

Hurricane Harvey wiped out TONS of vehicles and insurance companies are going to be trying to recoup losses from all their payouts. It'd be interesting to see if you could trace VIN's to see where they've been registered. I don't know if that's even a thing but I'd bet a lot are going to be from southern Texas.

That said if it's been properly fixed it shouldn't be an issue, but that can be a BIG if.
