I just spent two days cleaning up a lot, making everything that fit into tiny pieces...

 

I do not but I can get them. I’ll pull the back off and see what wiring is going to the unit.
I recently lost power in a storm and the thermostat was blank then (indicating the batteries are long dead) so it shouldn’t be working at all without hardwired power.

 

I'm not an expert on heating systems, but I think the "c" wire provides power if you have one. It can vary a lot depending on your furnace/central air/fans that your house is set up with. I only have 2 wires going to my thermostat.

That's odd. Maybe it got fried in the storm? If the screen isn't working on your thermostat, I would think that is your problem. It's probably also the easiest and cheapest thing to start troubleshooting with.

I think it is too I’d just rather pay for this project in 2 months rather than right now XD
But tis is life and they really don’t cost that much lol

 

The sooner you get it the sooner the ROI kicks in as far as programmable energy savings
Should be an easy swap, plug and play unless you need to run a new wire like I did. I only had a 2 wire setup

I agree with @dlawrence529, I had purchased a brand new Honeywell thermostat when I renovated my place and was running into a bunch of issues the second I hooked it up. I had my electrician also check my wiring and confirmed it was fine. It had me thinking my central AC unit was broken.

All to say, the cheapest solution was to purchase a different model Honeywell (upgraded version with a larger screen) and the issues went away.

Similar in your case it could simply be a defective thermostat and for $20-$60 it's worth it just to swap it out.

 

What smart thermostat do you run?

I want something that will tell me how to be more effecient based on my temp preferences because as of now I keep my house 63 in the winter and 74 in the summer. I hate paying for utilities lol.

Not sure if all ones will do programming like that or if you need to buy a special model.

 

I got the ecobee 3 I think because it didn’t have Alexa
I really like that I can keep it at a baseline of 55 (no ac needed here lol) and it bumps up to 60 when it senses occupants. I crank it up to 65 when we have company lol

I only have 2 wires and the Nest 3rd Gen works for me. I did not have to run anything new. I have an "r" and "w" wire.

 

It's a great unit. When we replaced our furnace I installed the same. I especially like that there are multiple sensors and you can instruct it to take the average of the active sensors to assess temp. Our house used to have some cold spots as the main sensor was located on a wall with a heat duct behind it. The furnace was constantly cycling on/off during warm up.

 

U must have central air too then right?
The ecobee comes with a 2 wire adapter that only works if you have heating and cooling relays if I remember correctly

 

I just have hot water baseboard heat. I have a window AC unit for the bedroom but nothing that runs off the thermostat.

I have the Nest. I think it uses the low voltage in the existing wiring as a trickle charger for its battery. I don't have any adapters or external power cords.

 

So I close on my new house the 29th of this month. Can’t wait to start working in the yard. The inside has been updated so it’s not needed right now. What kind of things have y’all done to your yard?

I second this. I went through 2 "cheap" thermostats and finally upgraded to the ecobee. It is spendy, but came with a 3 year warranty, has been flawless for 18 months, and the abilities it has are great. You can get alerts right on your phone for hi and low temps. Not positive but they should come through email also. With my gas company incentives, out of the original $199 I paid, only $85 has come out of pocket. And hopefully we have a few more events this summer, and that cost will further come down. I too have furry kids that I'd never want to see die that way if for some reason a relay inside a cheap t-stat didn't shut off.

 

Well I do want to change this tile around the fire place. Just looks out of place with the color. Was thinking maybe some white brick style tile or something similar?

Also want the TV hung over the fire place. Means I’m going to need the cable cord ran up there and a power outlet. Has anyone did this recently?
