I have a 2016 4 Door TRD Sport I'm trading in on a 2019. The best deals I've been able to negotiate through the dealerships don't have a tonneau cover. I'm not interested in dropping the $900-$1000 on a Bakflip MX4. I've also read quite a few forum posts but most of them discuss purchasing a used factory cover and the parts required to install it on a truck that didn't have one in the factory. I have a few questions about the process:
    1. I have seen no one discuss adding the tonneau to the 2019. I'm assuming it's still the same as previous models. Would someone please confirm?
    2. On the existing 2016 is the only thing I need to make the conversion the non-cut bed rails? Are there any other parts I must remove or replace? I believe the rails I need are part# 66249-04050 & 66248-04050.

You should be able to swap your cover to the new truck in less than 30 minutes.

2019 is exact same truck as 2016 except it has added safety features. The bed is EXACTLY the same. Just swap the bed rails from your 2016 to the 2019. No modifications needed.

If you can... wait till 2020 models come out. You’ll have opportunity for better deals on the 2019, especially this year as the 2020 refresh is going to be more significant than those of past 3rd gen’s.

I just sold mine and did a parking lot swap with the buyer. Bed rail caps, the 5 latch pins along the sides of the bed, the lockdown bolt bracket on the rear right side of the bed, and there is a mount on the rear bed rail directly in the center. Everything uses a T35 torx bit.

Thank you for all the replies! Is there a cap that goes where the front center support goes on a Tacoma with a non-factory tonneau? I'm planning to remove the Tonneau before taking it to the dealership for trade in. I'll need to buy the parts before instead of using the new 2019 parts. Then I'll just keep the 2019 parts if I need them again.

Do you know when the new models typically show up at the dealerships?

Usually in September, with serious inventory reduction (manufacture based discounts of an extra $2500-$3000) on previous year Tacoma models, PLUS the dealer discounts occurring in November.
