Poll: Talk me into, or out of, Amber fog lights

They were absolutely plug and play. I recommend them highly.

Amber to use the lights as they were really designed, ie foul weather where low beams are your only choice.

If you want road illumination, pick some other form of auxiliary lighting.

 

The "science" aspect is dubious at best, but subjectively, after using them in all sorts of weather and terrain conditions, ambers down low *appear* to work better for me than pure white light.

 

Some say the biggest advantage is simply that yellow is less straining on your eyes, so your vision doesn’t tire as quickly. I can certainly see how that might be the case.

The old iPhone “nightshift” idea, where the phone screen yellows at night so you can keep looking at your phone long into the night without getting sore eyes.......ughhh

 

It makes the screen redder. Red doesn’t hurt your night vision

 

LOL people have been running yellow/amber fogs since fog lights were invented. Function>fashion.

 

I have the Baja Designs fog kit. I use them all the time when were in the desert at night, but I've only used them on the road maybe twice when it was an insanely heavy downpour. They're not blinding, but I'm not gonna be like every other bro that runs fog lights 24/7

 

I run Baja Squadron Sports with the 'driving combo' lens, and theyre technically not DOT but they're close enough that I've never gotten hassled over them, and I run them on the street when its really foggy or raining/snowing hard. Personally, I find them less grating on my eyes while driving, and I do feel they penetrate through fog and rain better. Downsides are it can be a bit disorienting having all the road signs appear a bit yellow until you're used to it.

For dust, rain or snow...yellow is the way to go. Doesn’t ruin your night vision like bright ass reflective white LED does.

Settle for Amber since they don’t make a light called “cinnamon”

 

i also went the halogen/ Lamin-X route. i love the look of LEDs, but i only run my fogs when i need them and i prefer the throw of halogens. and yes, amber makes driving in snow/ fog/ rain a bit easier.

 

I've got Amber Squadron Sports and clear Squadron Pros, I ended up getting an amber covers for the Pros..
I found clear/white to be hard on my eyes and tiring while driving. Also Amber in a snow storm is awesome.

I have Rigid SAE fog lights and use them with Amber filters. The filters stay on 100% of the time now since I added 2 Baja XL80 for off roading at night. I even have Amber covers on the XL80. I would say go with yellow or do what I did and buy clear lights and use snap on filters, a bonus is that they'll protect the lights from rocks or whatever gets thrown at them.

 

It seems like 3 out of 4 Tacoma drivers are preferring the amber lights. I’m surprised by that.

Have the KC G4's in amber. They replaced the stock 2nd gen fogs. I dont really drive in dusty areas so no idea there, but have been very happy in clear nights, fog and snow. They provide light without the harsh return of light reflecting back at you.
Were super easy to install, and yes they do look good.

 

My eyes are pretty sensitive to bright light after Lasik. All my laptops, iphones, ipads, etc use the Night Shift mode to change screen to warmer color temperature. Will gouge out my eyes if I had to drive in snow with clear fogs. I don't think amber is fad at all.
