I buy a 6 pack off Ebay. Usually runs $45. I keep a spare quart in my truck just in case, and use it to top off the engine if the 6 qts dont fill. Usually 6 qts puts in right between the high and low mark though

Yea, I found that Amazon is the cheapest for a case which is $88 per case shipped after tax.
I have a friend who is Shaeffer oil distributor, I think I’ll just go ahead get a few cases of that at $75 per case

    Thanks y’all

Unknown lift, maybe 2" I don't know how to ID it, and would rather set it back to stock.
@Thatnoobguy I suppose we just have to figure that (without explanation from Toyota) that those 2 part numbers are interchangeable. I haven't seen someone post up a side by side photo of the 2 filters with both part numbers yet, and no verifiable commentary from any reliable sources.

Seems so. Got 4 more filters under that number, if you need more pictures incase someone has one sold under other number.

Thanks for this! Sitting at dealer now getting this stupid TSS sensor ducktape, and picked up a few oil filters etc to do it myself.

Mine does that too. It's just slack in the drive train. Most of it is probably backlash in the rear differential but there are several other enmeshed gears along the way. Everything can be in tolerance but still jerky.

Hmm interesting. I just forced my self to push the pedal slowly until it goes off smooth. Call it pretending I'm an 18 wheeler

I don't think you can be too early. My front was dirtier than my rear for some reason (pun not intended).
It's cheap insurance and it feels good to get in there and know that YOU checked it and it's ok.
Super easy to do so no downside really. Good luck!

One thing I haven’t seen on here yet is battery maintenance. I was frankly quite surprised when I saw that Toyota doesn’t give us a sealed battery from the factory. Because the battery isn’t sealed it means we can and probably should check the water levels in the battery at least occasionally and top off as neeed.

If I’m doing it wrong, please correct me!

    You’ll need:
    Eye protection and gloves
    Distilled water
    Flashlight or head lamp
Something to put water in the cells. I used a cheap turkey baster.

    DF8EAD26-2187-4D85-8109-1AE9A2F01AE6.jpg

Pop your hood and look at your battery. It’s probably dirty, and it’ll probably have wet spots around the caps on the battery top.

    B2D108E4-1C6C-47F5-9900-EE996E052CC9.jpg

Clean the top off, and pop the caps off. I used a bottle opener (flat end, not the pointed end) because that’s way I had handy but a flat blade screwdriver would work too.

    480E37D4-E1C5-4AAD-B372-1FB30EA4660B.jpg

Look down the holes and see if the electrolyte levels are level with the bottom of the holes.

    Nope!

    33462EFE-C724-4A4D-A856-3739194FBB8F.jpg

So, go one cell at a time and add a little bit of distilled water until the water level is flush with the bottom of the hole. Wipe off the top of the battery, making sure nothing else gets in to the battery, and pop the caps back on. Try not to drop a cap down on to the skid plate like I did and it’s a 15 minute job. :) I needed 0.5-1.5oz of water per cell.

My truck is a 2017 and was purchased in April 2018, has 27500 miles on it. Every cell was low by quite a bit, so hopefully this helps extend the life of my battery (and yours too, if you maintain it!).

Nice to mention this overlooked tip. I like to mix up slurry of baking soda in water and brush that on the terminals to neutralize any acid corrosion going on, remove battery and clean it off, clean out tray the battery sits in and leave a layer of baking soda in the tray once dry. Clean off the battery posts w your choice of technique, as well as the insides of the cable connectors that mate w the battery posts, and smear on a bit of dielectric grease. Can also brush on some NOCO NCP2 battery corrosion preventative. Did all this to mine 2 months ago, but oops.........didn't check the cells. Now my OCD compels me to go out and do this right away before I forget. Thanks for the reminder @skierd .

Make certain you are adding pure DISTILLED water into the battery cells. That's really key.

To be perfectly honest I wouldn’t be surprised if not checking your battery levels is why so many complain about Tacoma batteries dying early and suddenly.

It’s not called out in the manual and if I hadn’t seen the residue on top of my battery coming from the caps and if I hadn’t gone through this with an electric forklift at work (that was GALLONS low on water!) I probably would never have checked my truck’s battery either!

We used to clean corroded terminals with coke and top them off while we were at it....

Preservative in Coca Cola and many other sodas is Phosphoric acid, and this is what gives sodas such as this their cleaning ability. You could do the same thing with any Starsan you home brewers may have, however, one acid does not neutralize another. Baking soda is a pH basic compound that will neutralize acidic pH compounds. Of course once you've used coke to clean, you gotta deal with all the gummy sugars unless you're using diet soda.....

Thank you for this. Believe it or not, I have never done this before on a vehicle. I checked my battery and all the holes were low. Glad i topped them off before Texas summer hit

do those cute little green & red washers work (on terminal posts) to keep corrosion off?
