Air coming out the vents with dial set to off?

When my a/c dial is set to off, air still blows out the vents at all times. Can't shut it off completely.

I can adjust the temp of that air with the hot/cold dial.

Is that normal? Can I make it stop?

Do not have premium pack. 2018 model.

 

Hit the recirc button with everything off and it wont blow any air at all.

 

I am pretty sure that happens to all vehicles. It does it on my 15. You can select recerc button, that might isolate outside air ramming into the cab.

The 'off' setting turns off the blower motor, but doesn't physically block the air flow. What you feel is basically "wind" from the front of the truck (where the vent intake is) while you drive down the road. You shouldnt feel anything if you turn on the recirculate function as others have said (or if the truck is stopped)

mine does the same thing tho its very little amount of air that it doesn't bother me.

 

I've never owned a vehicle that does this but I kinda like it... The recirc button stops it though

Cars are required to have a certain minimum amount of airflow, even when everything is “off”. It avoids the hazard of an exhaust leak under the cab from gassing the occupants while driving.

 

Does recirculation and non recirculation air get run through the cabin filter?

 

Are they? The Audi’s that I own default to no airflow unless you turn on the fan. There’s no option to leave the fan off but the vents open like there is in all the Japanese cars I’ve owned.

 

All my Toyotas did that. As said above, you can use recirculate to slow it down- farts last longer that way.

I would guess recirculate would not run through the filter, though I've not seen an exploded diagram of the Tacoma's HVAC box.

And as others have said, it's just the speed of your vehicle pushing air into the cab via the fresh air entrance into the HVAC box. Almost all cars do it, the extent is dependent on the HVAC design. I like it, personally. Don't have to have the fan on all the time, unlike my old Silverado.

Setting the climate control to recirculate will shut off airflow from outside the cab, and instead "recirculate" air from within the cab (typically from the passenger footwell). Do note that this can lead to condensation blocking your view out the windows, depending on temperatures and humidity

 

I just turn the knob so the air is directed to the floor vents if I don't want it blowing on me.

 

This is one of the best features of the truck.

Need to change the temperature? No problem. Turn it back on 1. Set Temp. Turn it back off.

Need to keep the windshield defrosted? Change to defrost Mode. Turn it back off. Crack open the rear window.
