    Thanks, I appreciate the info!

I am working today to attempt to get my regular service manager on the line, I left a VM Saturday that I expect documentation (of the rejection) to be provided to me ASAP in both the service documents and emailed to me. I have decided to upgrade this to explicitly telling him I will be stopping in at EOD today to pickup this documentation, in print. At this point, even if he says they'll fix it, I plan on letting him know I am owed documentation based on the fact a representative called and told me it was rejected.

I read a different thread here where at least 2 third gen owners had their timing chain cover leaking and the dealer fixed them . The one said the dealer said they would pull motor next time because it was so complicated . Is it dealer choice or am I missing something here ?

lol Yeah I hung out with a buddy last night who was like "my 08 is running like a champ! they just offered again to replace the frame but mine's good and they already sent me a check a year ago for it!"

    o_O

My grandpa had a 2002 that only went in for a battery replacement. My pops has it now. Never had a problem with it.

It's actually Toyota and all the auto manufacturers that pull this crap. If it's a customer paying it might pay 8 hours to do the job. When warranty pays the same job it might pay 3.5 hours to do the job. If you got paid by the hours of the job would you want to do the same work for less than half the pay because Toyotas paying? Not me

They usually make you sign one of those arbitration court documents. You basically wave your right to a trial by jury and have the trial with an arbitration judge. These judges tend to favor them because well they're most of the work that they get.

I feel for you, OP. But it sounds like you’ve kept calm with the dealership thus far, and that can only help you as you and they proceed with all of the problems you’re having with your truck. You’re neither a push-over, nor are you going in and blaring profanity at everyone. Just steadily seeking the facts. Ultimately, all of that will play in your favor , however it all works out.

I’m thinking there is more to this story. Obviously your Tacoma has problems, however are you walking into the dealership being a dick? Something isn’t adding up. I don’t know a dealership in my area that would deny those repairs. Something tells me it’s the service department refusing to not due the repair and perhaps blaming Toyota. I don’t know the whole situation and neither does anyone here. I just find it very odd they are refusing to do any repairs and claiming that’s normal. Something just doesn’t add up.

I would take the truck to another dealership. Politely let them know of your concerns and not say a word about having brought it to another Toyota dealership. Don’t pull out a list of shit that’s wrong just make them aware of the leak, worry about any other problems afterwards.

Not much more to the story, never have been rude by any means to them. This visit was for the braking shudder (reported at 5/29/18 and finally verified), discovered the oil leak the night before I brought it in, then while in they started looking at the rear diff howl for the second time, which was not on the RO. Which they started disassembling parts without my knowledge/sign off (not sure if that matters).

You're right though, something isn't adding up, and I plan on getting to the bottom of it.

I plan on getting an independent, reputable shop assessment and estimate. Don't know at this point when I will be getting it back.

Just to be clear from the start, mine was Not the same situation. My trouble was with Subaru and not Toyota. But my event did happen in Minnesota, so I thought I'd share, just to give you peace of mind with the MN court system:

    From 2017
    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/i-drove-a-forester-today.473370/page-2#post-14355782
    Post #23

Subaru Forester - loved the car - HATE the company! Here's a word of warning about Subaru of America:
    • My '09 Forester, bought new w/ 10 miles on it, failed under warranty.
    • SoA refused to honor said warranty.
    • The engine burned the #4 rod bearing at 35k miles. Just the one bearing mind you, all the rest of the engine was operational. There is nothing that I could have done which could have caused one single bearing failure and the rest of the engine be so pristine! (& pristine it was; you could still see the honing hash marks on the cylinder walls).
    • It was an extremely obvious assembly fault, yet SoA refused to own up to it.
    • Dealer wanted me to pay $6,000 for a new engine.
    • I took them to court and 18 months later they paid out $40,000 and bought the car back.
    • Stupid actions (or lack of actions!) by a company who should know better.
Obviously, 18 months of story behind this fiasco that I won't bore you with. Just know that the company had incompetent, non-mechanical as you can get, people calling the shots - and they called them wrong!
    • My first clue to that was when the local SoA rep refused meet face to face with me. He never did, not once, in 18 mos!
    • I sent both the oil filter and an oil sample to an independent laboratory - just as back up to my maintenance practices and both were rated at "clear for continued service".
    • SoA stepped back to regroup when I told them the samples were submitted, and yet they never requested the lab results. ??? That's like the pulse & breath of a warranty patient. They knew they had nothing and hoped their bluff worked.
    • The courts had an independent mechanic research the engine, my maintenance actions, records, receipts, etc. but when he looked (an actual visual) at the opened lower end (oil pan removed) and saw the one bearing in relation to the rest of the components - he laughed! Out loud. I was there and saw it happen, hence my earlier statement of "extremely obvious assembly fault".
    • The rest is mere details...
