Tires not rotated?

I was frustrated when I found out.

 

Yes that's right and a shame.

 

Just wanted to update this thread. I had the shop check (but not adjust) my alignment. Everything was within spec.

 

Just to let you know my actual numbers. I kept the paper for just this type of post. I haven't had a tire wear issue since this was done 2/19/17

Left Camber 0.2 deg. Right Camber 0.2
Caster 1.6 deg. Caster 2.1
Toe 0.05" Toe 0.04

Maybe your specs are different as you are a third gen though.

Caster difference is to compensate for road crown. Your kind of in spec. except for the toe, but I wouldn't call that a good alignment. You may have a pull to the right too.

I'd have that redone especially since you have tire wear. I paid $90.00 at a Goodyear corporate store at the time, much cheaper than tires. It's your truck though. Good Luck with it.

 

Honestly there is not pull whatsoever. I just had them check it for peace of mind. Payed $25. Sometime in the near future I will go ahead with a full alignment but this will suffice for now. I am assuming the noticeable tire wear was from not rotating for 8200 miles.

 

I took a screenshot of your specs for future reference when I do go and get an alignment. Thanks for your input.

 

I never trust a dealer when they say they did the rotation. To be fair, the Toyota near me did it (I could tell because I had a slow leak, which kept switching locations on the vehicle. Shows they did the work). The VW near me claimed they did, but my wife also had a slow leak that remained in the same location after said "rotation."

If you want to be sure, use America's Tire or somewhere else. They do it for free.

Is it a big deal? Meh. I went from 30k-58k without a rotation. The fronts were only 1/32 lower than the rears when I replaced the tires.

I would say, depending on the vehicle and tires it's a big deal. I had an 80 series Land Cruiser that I daily drove on some highway favored all-terrains. I went without a rotation for like 15K and the fronts were very obviously worn more.

 

Be careful asking for certain #'s. They will try to hit it. I had a shit heel tech trying to hit the #'s i asked and he flattened my cam tabs. I had to remove the whole damn lower control arm myself, bend the tabs back, and run a weld on the back of them to reinforce them. Your #'s look fine. That wear looks normal too. Just rotate.
You should have seen my cupping wear, from lack of rotating and not heavy enough springs for my bumper and winch.

You're absolutely right, it does depend on the vehicle. From my experience, however, it's mostly a non issue on the Tacoma.

 

Until you throw some weight on the front, like i did, lol. I should have upgraded springs then and rotated every 5k. Lol

 

The only cars you need to worry about with rotation are AWD cars. Other than that, it’s just more wear. You are stressing too much about this . Just rotate fronts to back and leave them that way for 10k or so. Back to normal rotation. That kind of wear can also be driving habits as well, but like you said, it does not look like they have been rotated. Oh well. Enjoy the truck

 

If you have a discount tire nearby they will rotate for free.
