Does the 2019 Tacoma 3.5L manual transmission come in 5speed? I was told by a dealership that the 6 speed manual was changed to a 5 speed manual for the 2019 models. Toyota’s website says it is still a 6 speed. Who should I believe?

I have a hard time believing they'd put a 5 speed behind the manual trans 6 cyl Tacoma...they haven't done that since 2004. The 6 speed gets better mileage. I'm guessing that guy was misinformed or misunderstood what he was told

Lol, I just drove one last week, it’s a 6speed. Your dealer told you that? WTF?

You need to step the hell away from that salesperson (and maybe dealer!). If they can't get a basic config right, god knows what else they might try to convince you of.

As far as I'm aware, in the USA for the third gen tacomas -- the 3.5l V6 can be optioned with a 6 speed manual, and the 2.7l v6 could be optioned with a 5 speed manual, but was phased out. That's likely where the salesman's confusion stemmed.

And, btw, most salesman have no idea about the mechanical functions of the cars they sell. Often, I teach /them/ things on the test drive

Very true. When I bought my Limited 4Runner, I jokingly asked the salesman how to put the vehicle in 2wd. He took about 5 minutes before I told him I was messing with him since the Limited 4Runner is Full-time 4WD. I think you'll find that a consumer is often armed with more knowledge that a salesman. Most salesman just don't care.

Most salesmen have no clue wtf they're doing. I asked mine what the ECT button does, even though I knew and she replied "I don't know but I can find out." That was a test to see if I should continue wasting my time asking further questions.

I was just at a dealership and I talked to the sales rep and said I wanted to wait for 2020 with 6MT. He warned me that the one they had on the lot may be the last manual they would have and that 2020 would phase the MT out. Told him that Toyota's Press Release confirmed a 6MT and 6AT for 2020 and he said that those were just rumors. :der:

I've found that salesman rarely know the entire model lineup they sell, period. I went to a Ford dealer looking for a Ford F150 Lightning and the guy looked at me like I had 2 heads, had no idea what it was.

    It’s a 6 speed. The 2.7 was a 5 speed but that switched that to a 6 tOo.
