So I got the Megallan TRX7 for my birthday just used the window mount for now to put it in the truck looking forward to getting my ram mounts to mount it more solid. Stoked to actually start using this thing and play with it and really start taking some cool trips. This will help a lot with my getting lost at OHV parks and going to other trails to take for some fun camping with the kiddo.

that thing is mad cool man I was checking it out!! I want one, but I feel like it wouldn't be as cool for Canada. I don't imagine there being as large of a trail database loaded by users. most of the people I talk to just use Gaia Premium App

I can search it and see. They also have a database that users can upload that aren't published. I just feel that some of the GIA apps and stuff aren't as easy to use for me. Plus I can punch in a trail and then get street nav to the trail nav on the trail and home which I really find useful. Also just using a larger screen for st. nav is hell of a lot easier than the phone. Frees that up.

from what I read everyone loved the Gaia app up here. I did love everything i read about ur unit that's for sure, its pricey tho! if I choose to do the Gaia app I would run a mini tablet. I don't wheel enough to justify such an expensive unit I don't think. I really want to be able to track and record my routes so I can have my own little "database"

Yeah I was back and fourth on a lot of stuff but then finally decided on this one. It was tough to figure it all out but I think for simplicity and ease of use this was closer to what I needed.

Hopefully sooner rather than later! Moving this weekend! Then I’ll still have a bazillion things to do, but it can be at a somewhat reduced pace. Shit the only reason I had that one day off when I met y’all was because I couldn’t get into my house because the floors had just been done.

True but if I were to of gone tablet route I would of bought a decent one of those then spent the $$$ on GIA and other apps which are recurring fees from my understanding. Plus I am not 100% sure but I might of had to have some sort of internet access for some of those apps which would mean adding a tablet to my phone bill.

Spendy at first but I think in the long run it'll be a wash pretty much. I needed something easy pretty much set up and ready to rock and roll. I like freeing up the phone for st. navigation which this thing does as well. User friendly is my main concern and after doing some trials of various apps they weren't what for me I would call easy to use for other more techy folks probably better option for me I found them hard to use. After talking with some people that had these and the user friendliness of them it is more up my alley. So far I am really enjoying it. It's refresh rate is a little slow but not horrible and it's a little clunky but decent could the software be better sure but I have seen worse. As I use it more and do some offroad driving with it I'll do a good review of it and if it's worth it. If I had the patience, knowledge, and $$$ to use the apps too it would be cool to compare them all. I just went with what would best suit me and my needs.

I hear ya. Just sticker shock for me man. Most of my build has been donations and super cheap steals since I'm supporting us on a single income. I'll throw it on the wish list though. Definitely would've liked to have it out on some of the trails I've ridden on and accidentally driven down some black trails and ended up scraping the under belly without any skids....
Hoping to pick up a welder with OT money for my birthday and start DIYing a lot of stuff in my free time, which should hopefully save me money to spend on other fun stuff.:fingerscrossed:

Guess I should post some stuff I've gone MIA and now another thread I've started has surpassed my build thread in # of pages.

@Casper66 I love this GPS unit so far!!!!

Finally got around to mounting it in the truck not on the stock window mount that came with it. Used several Ram mounts.
1" Ram ball w/ 1/4-20 threaded stud, 5" ram arm, double 1" ram ball dog bone, 2" (I think) ram arm, AMPS bolt pattern base that screws into the factory quick connect charger back perfectly. Downside is no more hanging the sunglasses from the mirror. Also the 5" arm is now rotated so it's angled towards the pass side. Straight up and down the leverage would start to loosen the ball stud in my plates. Also routed the wire back behind the unit and twisted down the ram mount.

That's cool, it tracks your miles off road! EAF Point Tracking in Real Time!

What are the acheivements? Trail Badges or X amount of miles type things?
