Where to mount power inverter under dash?

As the title reads, I've searched the forum and can't find any pictures or people specifically referencing where they install their own power inverters.

I have a 2019 SR5 that doesn't have the OEM inverter, but I'm looking to have DASH fast charging in my truck so an inverter is needed. Going to be installing the DMM to mount my phone, but want to run the cable up through the back of the dash and out the top for the DMM mounting spot. I'm yet to dive into the back of the dash, but before I do I wanted to see where everyone else has installed them behind the dash so that airflow isn't impeded. I know a lot of people put them under the seat, but with the DMM I need the cables to end right above the Entune system hidden through the back of the dash, not in the center console. The principal would be the same for a dashcam too, DC to AC power hidden behind trim and plastic.

Your asking a question that can't be answered because you gave no spec's on what size inverter you're trying to install . If its just a 150 watt inverter ( the size of a soda can ) then it will fit many places in the dash . best thing I can tell you is to lay down and look up under your dash and see where you can fit what you got .

 

There's lots of room under the center console and a straight shot from there to the lower switch panel. You can bring the battery feed along the frame rail and in through the grommet under the driver's seat.

 

I assume you mean you want to use the 19.5v charging? You don’t need an invertor for that, you are wasting (loosing) a huge amount of power to take 12v DC to 110v AC then to 19.5v DC. Can’t you just use a 12 to 20vdc step up regulator?

 

There's also a lot of room on top on the instrument cluster

 

The OEM inverter is 400 watts, so I don't see going much bigger than that without stressing the alternator. I'm not sure what it can push out. In that case let's say maybe 6-8in long on the large side, 4in wide?

DASH charging (OnePlus' own charging method) inputs to a proprietary brick from 100-240V then outputs 5V @ 4A. Total of a ~20W consumption. A normal inverter should do in this situation.

Never thought about under the center console, but the lack of airflow would be concerning. I've looked under the dash near the steering column and there seems to be good room and airflow there, but I'm not sure how I'd go about mounting it to the carpet without drilling into the firewall. The column and pedals take up quite a bit of room, so I only think it would fit in the top left corner.

 

The stock inverter is under the console. Are you planning on running it for long periods? The dash space I refer to is above the cluster there is a large void below the top deck of the dash. The only other thing there is the duct to the side vent and that duct is tucked against the firewall. Any space available will be stagnant, you'll need a fan to get flow at any of them.

 

It's been a bit since I had my dash apart, but I remember being surprised how much room was above the glove compartment. There is also lots of space under the center console.
