What did you drive before your Taco?

I've always wanted a rhd car. It would be weird getting used to shifting with my left hand though

That part comes easy. It’s making left turns at intersections that takes getting use to and passing on a 2 lane road was sketchy unless you have a passenger you trust lol. Of all the cars I’ve owned that’s 1 I wish I still had.

I think the best part was the fear in the eyes of the ppl the next car over when the waste gate opened and the screamer pipe was shooting blasting flames under the car.

My 1st car was a ‘76 pinto wagon I6 4-speed manual trans. 3rd gear didn’t work, and it drank a quart of oil every 100 miles...but it was mine.

Next was a ‘76 Jeep CJ5 4x4. Had the AMC 304 V8, 3-speed manual, and I beat the ever-loving hell out of that thing for a long time. Lifted it 4”, with Mickey Thompson 33x10.50’s, and steel tubes (didn’t have specific sliders back in those days). Couldn’t kill it. I tried.

Ended up trading the Jeep + $2500 for an ‘87 Bronco II 4x4, 2.9LV6, 5-speed manual, which I totaled 6 months later. It wasn’t a Jeep, no matter how much I tried to treat it like one.

First brand new vehicle I ever owned, was a ‘92 Ford Ranger 4x4, 4.0L V6, 5-speed manual. Drove that truck for 14 years. Never tried to treat it like something it wasn’t. My serious off-road days were behind me.

Second brand new vehicle was my first Tacoma. An ‘06 SR5 Access Cab, 2.7L 4cyl, 5-speed manual. Kept it 6 years, and loved it. Only got rid of it, because I needed something more than 4cyls, was tired of shifting gears in traffic, and “thought” I didn’t need a truck anymore. Really wanted more creature comfort.

That’s when I bought a new ‘12 Honda Crosstour EXL. 3.5L V6 4x4 automatic. It’s been a really good car, and the wife has it now. She’s always loved it more than I ever did. I always missed my Tacoma.

Now, I have my 2nd Tacoma. An ‘18 TRDOR, 3.5L V6 AT. Don’t have to shift gears, and I’ve got a truck again

 

haha yeah this is true thing drove like a compact car on the back roads didnt even feel like a van but wasnt too good for the tires. lol

 

Many cars before but the last one before the Taco was my Mercedes Slk 280. Couldn’t carry shit in it.

I hope you’re young! I don’t have kids yet (married and 31) but a double cab was a demand if I bought a truck...

 

Just a little 4 banger. I loved that little bugger. Bought it for $500 and it was yellow. Paid MAACO $99 to paint it black. Drive the crap out of it including during the 1991 Halloween blizzard in MN. 2 wheel drive and never got stuck. Drove all night in the snowstorm with my girlfriend next to me. Slippin and slidin.

If I’m careful, I can get a new vehicle and drive it until it dies, for about the same money as buying someone else’s problems every 2 or 3 years. Been lucky on both the first Tacoma and the Honda, as I bought at the right time, namely the previous years model after the new ones come out, and kept making the car payment to a savings account once the loan was satisfied, which makes for a nice down payment on the next one. Hope to do the same on the current Tacoma.

It’s fun to drive a manual once in a while, but for the most part I’m tired of shifting gears
