Turbos have been around a long long time. They don't cause the engine to work harder than designed for. That's pretty much what you are implying. The EcoBoost 2.3 is the same engine that is in Mustangs but it is tuned for more HP in the Mustang and more torque in the Ranger. The Ranger has the same motor detuned. There is a tune out that delivers more than 300HP on the EcoBoost.

The same engine used in the Lincoln MKc is the 300HP version.

That said I don't keep vehicles for more than 3-4 years, so long term, someone else will have to see how long it lasts.

If the 2022 Tacoma is all that and more, I will look again at Toyota, But my confidence has been shaken with the 2016 model. My experience with my 2016 Sport woke me up to Toyota not standing behind various issues. I'll keep the Ranger until then.

 

That is misleading. They referring to a SPECIFIC British made engine in the 1.6L. They don't even make that engine anymore.

The 2.3 engine is making 350HP in the Focus RS. The engine at its peak can handle 385 HP in the VUHL 05 race car. SAME ENGINE different tune. I would say the 270HP the Ranger has is not working hard at all.

Glad the ranger is working out for you. Had 3 rangers before owning my 1st Tacoma (1st gen). All 3 rangers (4.0 and 3.0) were complete dogshit garbage and I wanted to genuinely like the ranger.

 

In all fairness, those Rangers are nothing like the new Ranger. Not even an apples to oranges comparison. More like a kumquat to pineapple sort of thing. I will say I'm darn near sick and freaking tired of hearing about Rangers, Canyons, Colorados, Gladiators, Rivians, Ridgeline, etc. This is a Toyota Tacoma ENTHUSIAST forum. Not the god damn Ranger butt love orgy.

In all honesty I have to say get used to it. I'm not being a dick, it's just reality. Every manufacturer is scared to death of liability and bad press from accidents. This policy of 'hands off, no mods' is coming to all makes/models.
