I don't wanna put fishing rod in bed. Can I hang the rod to roof and open the small window? the rod will go through to the bed. Any experience? Show your picture please.

    Thank a lot.

Why I am thinking about that?
1,don't like move bed tonneau cover. rod holder is hard to set
2,It's easy to touch something when fishing rod seat too high or too long. When you make a turn in a small trail the rod will catch branch.

So are you thinking of attaching the rod to your headliner that the handle and reel would be inside of the cab and then the rod itself just hangs out over the bed? Out of curiosity, why don't you want to be the rod in your bed?

I put mine in the bed all the time, I use reel covers though so the reels aren’t damaged. My rods are 7’+ and never have issues. Or you can make something with rod holders that sit against the back of your bed up near the cab and have them up in the air. I had a tool box with rod holders mounted all the way across it at one time.

There is also someone here who posted a picture of their actual bed rack with cylindrical lockable cubbies that rods go in that were fabricated by some company. Wish I knew where to find it now.

I am a long time fly fisher and own some very expensive rods. I speak from experience. If there is a way to break a rod at the most inopportune time, it'll happen.

Having said that, the thing I would worry about with your idea is someone hitting the switch and closing the window thereby severing your rod. I do have a friend who actually just happens to be a famous rod maker and he employs a method sumilar to yours to carry his rods in his vehicle with a rack of his own making.

There are companies that make various rod racks in differing configurations. You might want to look into some of those. There are advantages and disadvantages to all of hem just like anything else. Pretty much I’ve just settled on breaking my rods down before I move to a new spot, I've learned the hard way that often times short cuts don’t end well and aren't worth it. But every now and then Ill take a calculated risk - albeit very calculated to minimize the risk. YMMV...

Because I have a bed cover. You need remove the bed cover as the fishing rod over 7 ft long.
And thanks for the idea of pvc rod holder. The same problem. I don't wanna move the bed cover so often.

Why don't you mount PVC to the bed rails horizontally so you can close the cover?

    EDIT: 7ft long..nevermind.

I just keep stuff in the bed when I am feeling charitable. (I live in Memphis lol) Can't wait for my diamondback to get here.

I have a canopy so I put them in the bed with the tips running into the cab through the sliding window. I wouldn't over think it, just set the rods in the back seat with the tips out the sliding window. Or break them down and lay them in your bed between spots. Or get one of the suction cup rod holders that goes on your hood/roof.

You tube video on how to make them. Real cheap, but heavy duty.
