Well, I think I lost my Benchmade that I have had for years at the gym yesterday. Anyone have a recommendation for a decent knife under $50, not serrated, has a clip, preferably that comes in black and a closed length under 4"?

Narrowed down to the Kershaw Leek, Scallion or the Spyderco Tenacious. Between these three do you like the Leek better? I tend to prefer a drop point blade a little more but I don't really have a reason for that.

I bought this Kershaw because i really like the size and Kershaw makes good knives for the price. I carry it 99% more than my Chris Reeve for 1. it cost a fraction of the price and 2. it doesnt hit my snuff can in my pocket when i walk like the CR does.

ARB Bumper, SOS sliders, rear bumper, and skid plate. OME Lift. Some other stuff.
Gerber: might not be sexy but they're durable, inexpensive, and get the job done.

For me I'm done buying expensive knives since I recently lost two of them in a six month period.

Had a Kershaw for twelve years that just wouldn’t quit, used and abused. Recently lost it, and went to Walmart. Grabbed their spring assisted knife, ten bucks, it’s only been a day, so cant really say too much. But it came quite sharp, and the spring assist opening is just slightly below what my Kershaw was.

    We will see.

Spyderco Tenacious is about $40 at Walmart.

My wife just finished a survival course and they recommended the ESEE. She bought it and now I feel very safe!

Instead of having 5 knives made in China or Taiwan,….. howsabout buying a benchmade griptilian for a hundred bucks. Or any number of other options made in US, Japan, Germany, Canada, etc.

I have a Benchmade 940-2 which is a great knife that disappears in your pocket (in a good way) and a Benchmade Barrage assisted open when I want something more substantial.

Everyone can afford to spend a hundred bucks on a good quality knife if you don’t go for the more-stuff-is-better approach.

Cheap knives fail. Buy a good one and make it last.

Yep, I invested in a Griptilian as my everyday knife when Benchmade had a sale, wonderful piece of gear.

2nd on the ontario rat 2, great knife for the price. I have a small collection of pricier knives, and my daily driver is the benchamde mini-bugout. I thought I wouldn't like it when I took it out of the box, but now its my go to knife (except when im at home and my microtech is around)

Spyderco's factory in Taichung Taiwan turns out knives that are on pare with any production folders from anyone. They Taichung models are far and above the quality of the ones from Golden, IMHO. I also think they're nicer than those from Benchmade, and I own several from the Butterfly company. They are good knives, but not in the same league as the Spydercos from Taichung.

(yeah, I know this is an old thread. I was looking for a good discussion thread on pocketknives.)
