P0325 Knock Sensor - While I’m in there...

    I have a 99 Tacoma 5vz-fe with about 245k. The truck has had the P0325 Knock Sensor 1 Circuit (Bank 1) code since I bought from PO about 2.5 years ago. I’ve read all the posts and I’m going to get in there and check things out. I’ve got the Toyota harness already and I’ll check the sensors when I get in there to see if they are bad too. I also plan on checking the wiring from the harness back to the ECU. My question is while I’m in there is there anything I should look for, clean, or replace? Anything I should look out for when I can see in there? I have all the associated gaskets, plugs and wires are new, throttle body is clean. I appreciate the help

    If your pulling it all apart just buy new knock sensors.

    Replace the water line that’s under there too that’s runs in the valley

    Ok, I’ll take care of the water line and I have new valve cover gaskets. I’ve read quite a bit about the knock sensors being rock solid so I didn’t order them. Amazon has the OEM ones for $125 a piece so I was trying to save the $250 if they tested out ok. I’ve seen it said both ways, replace them while you’re in there and leave them if they’re good. I’m kinda leaning towards replacing them cause this is a lot of work. If anyone else has an opinion I’d like to hear it.

    I bought my OEM Desno off ebay for around 85.00 for the pair, they were sealed in the bag, stamped Desno and have a date code on them that was less than 7 months old which makes them OEM

    There plenty of fake ones.

    OEM sensors will have a date code stamped on them.
    Make sure they have the code and are sealed in the toyota bag and marked DESNO.
    The part number that I used now 60,000 miles ago is

    denso 89615 12040

    Just remember plastic plugs get brittle with age .

    They tend to be stuck together and the clips break so easy

    Might want to look at the vacuum hoses they get brittle and crack

    Yeah, I already broke the plastic wiring harness before when I changed out the valve cover gaskets so I’ll be fixing that while I’m doing this. The vacuum lines look good. This is going to take me a few days to complete because of work and the short days this time of year. I appreciate the help and suggestions.

    Anyone have a part number or know where I can find the stud in the pics below? There are two studs that set in the intake manifold and the lower plenum is secured to it by a nut. The front one is snapped and I’d like to fix it

    So while I was fixing the plastic wiring protector that I broke earlier I noticed a splice in the wires. After following them out I found they go to the knock sensor harness. In the pic below you can see the gray wire with the blue-yellow sheath has the brown wire from the harness connector spliced into the bare wire. The black wire with the all blue sheath has no brown wire connection to its bare wire. From my reading the gray wire is sensor 2 and the black wire is sensor 1. I have the P0325 code which is Sensor 1. So I’m going to splice both the bare wires to the brown wire from the connector and I believe that should ground both sensors through the single ground from the connector or would that not make a difference since they both go back to the same place in the ECU.47DF0CC0-DC68-4B2D-A899-7EF1B78DDEE6.jpg

    Make sure you soder those splice wires together so you don't have any issues later.
    Also get some TELSA heat resistant tape if you can for the
    wiring harness if yours is all broken

    I'm about to order some knock sensors also but i see you ordered part number ending in "40" and Ran40 mention a part ending in "90". Which is it? I have a 98 4x4 3.5 manual. Ebay and Amazon have "OEM" sensors for around $25. Sounds too good to be true.
