All my rigs are purpose built. From crawling to camping. I also enjoy a nice stock truck for what that’s worth. Toyota’s are the jam!
I may just drop some big rocks down on that side for a little Offroad entry into my property. ;)

You know, I do. I need to get that going.
As Backcountry has mentioned, I tend to just let loose on other threads lol
I should take the time to put it together.

I would def go Alum. Once you hang a big piece of steel off the front, it is not going to handle the same.
If it was a dedicated Offroad rig that I knew the front was going to take a lot of abuse then steel is the way to go.
Also think about this, the tacos approach angle isn’t the worst, it’s the rear coming down off of stuff that you hit.
So Alum in the front and Steel in the back is my choice.
Save weight wherever you can, and keep it low.

I agree on the thought of the front and rear bumper.
I went aluminum in the front. its taken some abuse over the years, and so far so good. Obviously I haven't went killdozer with it, but the bottom portion of it has taken some hits. Skids on the other hand, is a different story. I started off with Aluminum thinking about saving weight. My opinion is if you plan on doing any off roading that is more than dirt roads, go steel on skids. I have already had to replace my transfer, and transmission skids, from aluminum to steel.

After seeing how Demello gussets the inside of these things, it was no contest.
Besides he was able to omit the side supports to the main low profile hoop for me, and after that slight change, I have exactly what I want. The combination of his works of art and Erick rocking the Q&A from S48O, it just all came together.
Go with your gut, that’s what I did...don’t fight was is supposed to be.

    X2 on what Dan stated.

@CountryDan How much driveline vibration did you experience when you put those skids on?

I ask...because on the Landcruisers and 4runners I have built, putting a large heavy steel skid on has enabled me to feel the vibrations of the drive train in the cab. Not horrible, just noticeable.

Now the skids I put on were made by IronPig and they did not mess around. Probably the beefiest skids I have ever seen.

on my tacoma, the RCI skids didn't cause any vibrations to begin with. I now have a nasty vibration noise that I need to track down, that I believe might be skid related/a skid bolt coming loose.
However on my Wife's 4runner she does get some vibration and noise cause by the skid. I believe its the transfer or transmission skid. Its really noticable at certain speeds and when the AC is on. that is suppose to be an easy fix. I just need to add a spacer of some kind to one of the skids. To be honest Im too fat to crawl up under the stock height 4runner to add such spacer. maybe next time its on a lift somewhere, I can get it done.

Haha, took me 20 minutes to figure out what stickers to put on the switch panel...poured a bourbon, turned on the Braves...things are good now.
