The SAI valves are blocking things just fine. No fear! But I would like to track down the package because my Mongoose cable is also in there!

A quick one for the NA guys:

As you guys know, @JustDSM said he would let me flash his NA tune. After a bit of a learning curve getting things squared away (haha!), I was able to write his NA tune to my almost entirely unmodded 1GR-FE. I'll do a more in depth review once I've logged more miles, but here are my initial impressions:

-much more responsive throttle, especially off-idle from a stop. Not jerky, but truck seems alive, not asleep at the wheel.
-4k-5k RPM at WOT felt pretty flat here at elevation in stock trim. With JustDSM's tune, it actually pulls those RPM's now.
-tranny seems to hold 4th and 5th gear much better without immediately downshifting (something that drove me nuts on this, my first ever auto trans)
    -SAI is MIA!
-Overall, to put it in my words, the truck feels like someone unloaded a few hundred pounds of bricks from the bed. It's a very noticeable difference.

I'll keep you all posted with a more long-term eval, but I'm starting to feel like this is turning into the truck I originally wanted it to be, making it easier to let go of my tire smoking 1st gen.

And I wouldn't have any of that if it weren't for JustDSM going above and beyond helping me get started. His efforts here are nothing short of heroic. I can't thank him enough for everything he's contributed to this forum and for all of the very personalized help he's given me, a guy he's only "met" on this thread a few days ago. Thank you buddy! I owe you bigtime!

For any of you A/T guys wanting to fiddle with shift scheduling. The stock TRD tune tables for my truck have it shifting 2-3 at 5100 and 3-4 at 5300. I bumped these up to have it shift at 5500.

The values in the tables are for transmission output speed. So in order to calculate your desired shift RPM...

Desired Shift RPM / Gear Ratio = Output Speed

    I went with these:

    (2-3 shift) 2700*2.0425 = 5514 RPM
    (3-4 shift) 3950*1.4006 = 5532 RPM

Will do. I'm interested in that aspect, too, but for "testing" purposes, my foot has kinda been in it a bit more than usual! :burnrubber:

Nice work! I'm excited to see where things go with the trans tuning :D

With all things being equal, if you were to drive exactly the same, in the same conditions, with each tune, the "JustDSM N/A tune" would get better mileage. Simple fact is I'm not using as much fuel under load as the stock tune. But let the truck tell it's story, it wont lie :)

I’m convinced, just have money going to other places than this for now. Some actual dyno charts would be nice as well other than the butt dyno reviews.

Update on the early (2005-2011) vs late (2012+) throttle mapping chatter from 20/30 pages back :D

Thanks to @DesertRatliff who supplied me with a 2006 calibration to compare! Thanks man!

I can definitively say, the throttle mapping of the early trucks is in fact more aggressive than the later models. That would definitely explain some of the differences you guys are feeling. The changes are somewhat minor, and not as bold as my throttle mapping but would be great for someone wanting a little more but still needing the ultimate in throttle control for off-road use.

Here are the differences. This map is not the stock values, but the differences in throttle angle degrees.

No worries.. I'll remove it. I think the point is people want dyno proof should fund it.

Oh there will be some mods all right
Genuine question as I know nothing about tuning, is that how much Dyno tuning usually costs? I don't even know where the closest dyno is since I live in the woods :anonymous:

2011's share the more aggressive mapping, 2012 is when they neutered the throttle even more.
