I have a ton of respect for the LS platform. They make great power. But, anyone that thinks it's cheap, has probably never actually built one.

How much power do you really need? I'm just saying think about that before you pull the trigger on an LS swap. An LS is a great platform for making big power, but if you only want 300-some hp and torque, just supercharge the 4.0.

Also, 2jz was mentioned. In all seriousness, 1jz could be an option. Much cheaper to acquire than a 2j, capable of serious power, and the later vvti version made peak torque at 2400 rpm(i think)

Not sure what your point is. I said LS swaps are great for big power, but not as cheap as people act like they are.

How much does your friend have invested?

A junkyard swap will end up costing you a few thousand at least. Then if you want to make more power you're adding cams, head work, built bottom end, tuning, ETC. Next thing you know you've got 20-30K into it.

Bone stock LQ4 with a Borg Warner turbo has maybe $4k including including purchase price of engine at the junkyard . Got a couple hundred passes out of the motor until a failure of the boost controller. Kicked the rods out when the boost controller went to 25lbs

    Cheap build that failed. Shocker.

We're talking about a guy that wants a reliable build for off-roading, i assume. Different scenarios.

Plus dropping a Chevy small block into a vehicle that came with a Chevy small block is a little different than dropping a Chevy small block into a vehicle that came with a Toyota v6.

Last year I helped a buddy of mine do a LS swap into a 84 Chevrolet Pickup we also converted it to 4 wheel drive with a Blazer donor Vehicle.(using that frame allowed us to do a dual front shock setup) After it was tuned it will roast all four tires on dry pavement :D :burnrubber:

I know of three threads on XRU which will lay the ground work for the swap. Bring your wallet.

I was once told that I was unimaginative because I wouldn't do an LS swap. Go figure. :luvya:

Something that hasn't been mentioned is that the LS is a pushrod engine, so it's much more compact than "modern" OHC engines. Makes it a great candidate for swaps as it's easier to fit in smaller engine compartments.

There is Toyota badge on the 3sgte, the 2JZ and the 2ZZGE.

Even on the boxer and BMW engines. They are still Toyota OEM factory motors.
