Thanks againToyota for nothing. Buying and modifying my Tacoma was supposed to be enjoyable. My Tss works fine but they wont keep it working by doing the recall. You're not concerned about me and my passengers safety at all. Sold my 91 22re when I bought the tacoma, that was a big mistake.

He's been certified by Toyota to calibrate the sensors to prevent having to get vehicles to the dealer and back to the shop.

He's basically saying that if you're competent enough to understand the system you can calibrate it no problems.

Techs just input your vin and they do it via spec. Thats just how Toyota does it. I have more trust in him working on my truck than I do any tech at a dealership. FYI he's been a mechanic working on various vehicles for 30+ yrs prior to starting his own glass shop.

However, I do understand what you're saying from an engineering/lawyer's perspective.

EASIEST solution for toyota is to enable a way to turn off the system without having a light on the dash.

Kinda related story, had a vehicle in a Chevy dealership for service and a State Trooper was passing through for whatever reason and saw my truck with the not legal window tint, was told to have them remove the tint before it left or if I objected he would remove my inspection sticker and tags. This was some years back and I didn’t fight it as I knew even if he couldn’t do that he would catch me on the road.

I’m sure it was a threat he couldn’t carry through with but in the end it was darker than my nanny state likes and had I refused I’d had a nice ticket out on the road.

Had my '18 Sport done for the 10,000 mile service this morning with an aftermarket Pro Grille with OEM Garnish and had no issues getting mine done. The service manager told me about the recall for the MWRS update

What I don't understand is how Toyota is getting away with selling modified trucks if these sensors "can't" be calibrated.

I call BS and that they're just fking to lazy to deal with it.

Ah there's the rub. Toyota is not selling modified anything. The Toyota dealers sometimes sell new modified trucks. Your local Toyota dealership is NOT Toyota Motor North America.

Starting to wonder if this TSB or recall campaign is an effort to document how many people changed grilles or otherwise modified the TSS system. That could absolve Toyota of a lot of liability for the subset of us that changed grilles and didn’t recalibrate should something go wrong with the system.
