Oil leak is in no way ok. But honestly it sounds like you are impossible to please. Your list is really long and has some nitpicky stuff on it. After a while they probably think that you will never be happy so why keep trying. But the oil, yeah that's a real issue. Not trying to be a dick, that is just kind of how it reads.

It shouldn't matter to the dealer, it's not like the dealer has to eat the cost of the repairs...

No problem! I can’t say your wrong! To a degree, the window trim/headlights lean that way. But for 38k with an extended warranty, the mechanicals need to be addressed. It’s also been spread out over a few years and it’s first warranty repair was within 10 days or so of driving it home.

Every few months it’s something mechanical, that’s what really burns. Also that it’s been in the shop for 42 days and counting.
(19 spread out, 23 and still going on this trip that was originally for 1 problem, found 2 more along the way, one found has previously been addressed via TSB, new leaf pack/body dampeners for diff howl.)

I have been giving it some deep thought, given it is after all, a vehicle. I'll be leaving them alone to dig in.

They're doing the timing chain cover now, switching away from looking for solutions to the diff howl return and the original (reported a year ago, started around/under 5,000k miles, verified within the last few months) brake shudder (which has legitimately turned into a washboard). So that's a few days in itself before they return to troubleshooting 2/3 offenses of what it's serving time for now.

keep the pressure on....its your truck....a defect is a defect no matter how trivial if it is not to spec......remember the o-ring in the shuttle?.......if your claims are valid and real, go for it.....make them fix it all......dont worry about those who think your truck and issues are or should be classified nitpicky......you paid good money for it.....if ii is wrong or bad then it is not nitpicky.....just MHO

On a second note, dealerships are absolutely worthless and so are the people and work at them. No offense to folks here that work at them. I’m sure some are better then others. But I would never count on a dealership to work for your best interest

Curious, did your truck come with an after market "dealer installed" lift??
Generally these are 2inch suspension + 1 inch body lift, or 3 inch suspension + 1 inch body

    None, stock.

I can post the window sticker if anyone wants it, I will be reaching that deep into my records I can tell y’all that. I’ll begin to scan all of it in soon. Going trout fishing in Missouri for a week, next week, but it sounds like they’ll be dismantling for the timing chain oil cover leak through this week, then going back to troubleshoot the second time diff howl and original braking down through 30-10mph shudder/washboard.

I will say I’m backing off the dealers and letting them work. They’re a link in the chain, and at this point this particular vehicle is the problem.

I actually have thought about and will probably bring them a box of good donuts, I have family and friends that work hard, diesel shop foreman, machinists, etc. I know what it is.

It actually makes me mad to think anyone trying to sort this mess (in polite words) would potentially get blamed or canned. It’s a bad vehicle.

I’ll post any and all records anyone wants to see, verify, etc.

Let me know, I’m going to be scanning documents in the future.

I may just post them anyway.

I’m getting ready and then heading to the dealership to speak with the General Manager. Whom I suspect may be unaware of this vehicle or it’s history.

    Updates to follow.

I did, cause I don't like this guy. He sounds like a huge pain in the ass and as far as I'm concerned he brought this on himself by wasting so much time and effort on stuff instead of just getting rid of the truck. He'll never be happy. I can't believe anyone is encouraging this. You wonder why our trucks are so expensive? Toyota pays to fix stuff for people like this and passes the cost on to us.

Instead of getting rid of ito_O :spending: Is what your saying. Buy a new truck, it has issues, go trade it and don’t worry about the financial hit. Must be nice:facepalm:

no oil leak is "acceptable" you are losing vital fluids which also means the evap, and crankcase seals are no longer in place meaning the engine is not operating as it should and probably cause other issues down the road..

I remember servicing BMW's with the i6 (which is most all of them) and being told to be mindful of ANY oil leaking from the oil filter adapter/housing as an oil leak there could cause the accessory belt to slip off, and into the crank seal destroying both the seal, and finding its way as tiny bits of rubber into the oil pump chain/sprockets, and oil pan.. and we had one customer that turned a vehicle in with this issue on a twin turbo 330xi wagon (really nice car) and after pulling the valve covers and discovering the timing was WAY OFF (loose chain) we found that the main bearings, and cam bearings were shot, engine needed replacing as they had likely spun bearings.. it just had not shot a rod out the block yet.. it is easily a 7-14k motor especially if the oil was contaminated and it got through the oil system to the turbos, and coolers..

So, he trades it in and your favorite cousin is looking at buying a used truck. He comes across this one and buys it because the dealer selling it cleaned it up real nice. A week later, your nice guy cousin discovered he bought a leaking truck. Now you and your favorite cousin are pissed at the dealer and Toyota for selling such a piece shit truck. Luckily, the truck is still within the warranty and now your cousin has to fight with the dealer, in which they finally agree to fix it. Guess what, Toyota is still paying for it and passing the cost on to us. So why does it matter who owns it? The truck has an oil leak, is still under warranty, does not matter who owns it, and it needs to be fixed.
Same scenario up until the point the leak is discovered. At this time your cousin is over the mileage so warranty is out before he sees the leaking. Now he has to pay for the repair himself. How do you feel about that?

    1,000% not how that works
Toyota pays the dealership to fix the car because they guaranteed you a quality product for X miles.
And all new cars are expensive - partially due to inflation, mostly due to regulations in safety, emissions, etc
