You certainly CAN go wrong with a Goodyear as most of their tires are complete crap, but the Duratrac and the MTR/K are the exceptions for sure.

I don't think I did. Wouldn't it say it on the specs? All it reads is 265/75/16T

My MPGs also took a big (2-3) drop when I first mounted my Wildpeaks. It has since come back up so don’t despair yet. These trucks are very finicky though, my commute ranges from 18-21 with only small variations in traffic.

Thank you all for the responses! I love this community and all the advice And help you are all willing to give. I'm going to give it some time and see. I do believe the tires being bigger has thrown off the old calibration with what my truck thinks I'm actually doing.

I added 265-75/16’s on mine about 3 months ago and I lost about 2 mpg and I expected it since they are bigger tires and raised the truck 1-2 inches so more air resistance also...

Figured I would chime in with an update. After commuting for a week and letting it do it's thing... My mpg saw a couple trips in the 19s 18s and as low as 16s. The average was around 17.5 which is about 3 mpg worse than my previous average.

Would you say this loss sounds right for changing the tire size so drastically? Is it normal for the same trip to be 16 mpg highway one day and the next be 19.8?

I know I have a bought a truck and mileage should not be my concern but I am just wanting to make sure I am getting the most from the truck and that there isn't a bigger underlining issue.

Sounds about right. Reason some members see less of a drop is because they are swapping them on a OR which has a different stick tire than the SR5. Over the Goodyear that is on the OR you’ll see around a 1-2 mpg drop some claim 1-0. Pretty sure that’s the difference with yours.

You could be right. But I still had around 19-21 hwy and 16ish city. Weird that he would see such a drop when everything with him and I are about the same. But idk.

Every truck is gonna vary a bit. Its pretty flat here so maybe that’s why I haven’t seen much of a difference.

Running the same tires. Definite reduction in mpg but the tires are really nice compared to stock and I will take the penalty. Stock tires barely lasted 3 years for me. These still look brand new with 10K miles on them. Always a trade off. These are much heavier than stock.

The previous tires were 245/75/16 I believe and the Wildpeaks are 265/75/16. It's about an inch difference in height and width of the tire. I don't have enough experience with this to know if that big of a tire change will drastically change the mpg

I do wonder though. If the OR comes stock with bigger tires and gets 20-21 highway. How is it different with the SR5 having those tires. Don't they run the same except for suspension and shocks? Is it possible the computer would need to be recalibrated to accurately judge mpg with bigger tires?

    I saw a 1-2mpg drop but I went from 265 65 17 to 265 70 17.

Yes worrying about small mpg changes might seem pointless but 1 mpg less signifies around $300 over the lifetime of the tires.

3 mpg less is around $900 more in gas for the tires lifetime.

Would you rather redirect that money upfront for lighter, higher quality tires and have enough left over for a couple beer cases and meat grilling fest? I sure would.

I lost MPG when I threw on my Wildpeaks at first too but now I’m back to about 18 city/20 hwy. I say just give it time. I’m at 10K miles now. Put them on at around 5K

Yes, it's pretty normal for this truck, at least in my experience. I typically average around 18mpg on my daily commute (MT with 265/70R17 Wildpeaks), but on Monday I got 22.1mpg going to work and 16.4mpg going home due to a steady 20mph westerly wind.
