I'm done with air matresses. They don't last long, they are heavy and it's a pain when it decides to deflates during the night. I think the longest I had one over the years was 2 seasons, maybe three. I've switched to self inflating pads. Pay the extra and get a thicker one for comfort.

 

I went on my camp out, and im meeting you on the same conclusion. Im thinking memory foam for my own set up

 

I am using this cot with my camping pad and it’s the best sleep so far.

Cot may not work for me. Unless I'm sleeping solo which is doubtful. memory foam plus that diant ass queen sized sleeping bag is my current set up.

I'm looking at options.. thinking thick self inflating mattress and decent sleeping bag.. have a lightweight packable, and a heavy thick one as well as an arctic down cocoon type. plan to bring the heavy one, and the packer.. unless its a winter camping trip. pillow options??? at home I sleep on a memory foam cooling pillow. but theyre suer heavy, and kinda pricey..

 

So for weight I am not too worried if it’s super light as I’m not going to be back packing with stuff I don’t think. I do think the air mattress will be short lived (I do remember it needing to be re-inflated on trips that lasted where we stayed longer than a day in one location).

Main goal right now is to shake down with the gear we have and figure out what we need, the girlfriend and I. I do think the individual self inflating mattresses may be ideal and cots could work also, but everything needs to either be doubled or for made for two.

 

Two of these for my setup may actually work out will, Queen is 60" so 5" either side of difference which wouldnt be hard to fill, plus foldable for the kit in the back.

I actually have 2, the 1st one they sent me was 3 years old and the battery / air pump had been updated. The battery did not work since it was so old. They sent me a brand new battery, but it did not fit in the old style.

They sent me a brand new mattress, asking me to cut up the old one.

I was like 'sure'.

Now I have 2, one that works with the built in air pump and 2 batteries for it. One that I will have to blow up with the OBA.

They are super thick and comfy.

 

I have a Coleman one that has an external pump. I’m hoping it holds air. Worst case I will be going towards close cell foam or a self inflating mattress that is a mix of foam and air.

Other option is cots but they usually pack larger than the above and I do need two of everything for Karoline and I.

For camping on my own I have a single man tent that sets up on a cot.

 

I like this and for your setup your laughing but Storing that for me would be a pain.

 

for my setup, im thinking this is the best route, though i will need to improve my ventilation from the condensation within. Sleeping with a window cracked may be the solution

 

I say install a fan in the roof. that’s expo.

 

they're massive, and also expensive. I'd love to find another one and put it towards the cab/bed portion with the downwards pitch, that is also small and has a fan.

I think you would be better off getting a stronger fan and and enclosure. Some even come with them. These fans are hella strong, metal bearings and fins. Plug into standard 120v or can get them in 12v

God damn hippy lol. Computer fans are a viable option if i can have a waterproof cover over them which is why i like the bigger RV stuff, but again, size and price lol. Just need a smaller option!

 

There is a top and bottom of the fan. The top has a cone (similar to my snorkel). I am assuming the air has to move up which won't allow water to seep in.

Well. The truck cap didn’t even last a year, and I believe only 3-5 trips. Since I did the whole flatbed I have maybe put 10k km’s on the truck. Considering this is a commercial cap and construction sites are generally rough roads, I figured it would hold up to the abuse for a while. I was wrong. Pictures show that most of the welds around the door joints have cracked. I have contacted ARE but a replacement isn’t going to cover my time/hardware that went into outfitting the cap. Not only that, but I’ll have to remove it all, reinstall which requires a shit ton of rivnuts, all potentially the same problem occurring.
