PCV valve and Belt Tension

So I had my PCV valve changed as well as my drive belts.

Belts
All belts seem to be in good tension except the alternator belt. I find it too stiff, but I don't know if it is normal. I've tried doing the 90 degree belt tension test on it, but I cannot do it because either: it is too short to do it on it OR it is too tight. I'm wondering if anyone knows something about this specific belt and if maybe I shouldn't be worrying about it.

PCV
Additionally, I replaced my PCV valve, but the hose that connects to it felt really hard and solid. I did not feel too confident about it's state because I could move it up and down since it isn't able to grip the valve like it should. Is this OK for these engines(2.7 by the way)? Only thing I ended up doing was placing the metal tightener close to the very bottom to where it didn't move with slight movement unless I forced it hard.

 

BELTS:
One way to check belt tension is to use a belt tension tester. That being said, in all of my 60 years of driving, I never bought one. Once or twice I've noticed when I rev the engine I could hear a belt squeal. In that case, I would just tighten it.

Over the last 29 years I just replace the belts every so often and then I don't have to worry about it.

PVC VALVE:

When replacing a PVC valve and you find that the rubber grommet it fits into, or the hose that fits over it, is hard, you should replace the grommet or hose to prevent air leaks. Doesn't cost much, and you'll probably do it only every 10 or 15 years.

Of course, if you drive 40-50K miles a year, you'll have to do it more often. YMMV.

 

Adjusting tension on the alternator belt is easy. Just loosen a nut (or bolt?) and then use the adjustment bolt to adjust tension as necessary. For the alt, I think 1/2 inch or so of up and down play is good. Then tighten the adjustment lock nut/bolt again.

Replace the PCV hose if it is hard. Hard rubber will eventually get brittle and crack. Cheap insurance.

 

I have since tightened the alternator belt after comparing its wiggle room to the other two belts. In hindsight, this was a stupid question and I am sorry about that. As for the PCV hose, I have since ordered a new one thanks to the insight. Thank you all very much!
