Tacoma - OVTUNE - VFTUNER - Update Info and Original Development

I'm no expert on this, but I don't think that there is any memory anywhere on the truck to hold a separate tune, and probably no way to overwrite all those mappings in memory on the fly with the push of a button. Trust me, I think we'd all love if this was possible.

 

I think the selector idea was to make a larger tune file encompassing what we know today as each tune. The 'larger' tune would just have the different maps/routing for >1 existing tune. A selector "could" switch between those mappings to mimic say a base vs performance tune. The thread has talked about the cruise button, perhaps ECT, and more recently the Off-Road Mode selector that could be the way OVT implements it. All we can do is wait and see what comes out of it.

 

I was thinking the ECU probably only has enough memory to hold the contents of a single tune in it, thus not much wiggle room to fit more mappings in it. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

What we need is a consistent method across all trims that can allow the tune selections. Given OVT is looking to repurpose existing hardware/software interfaces (like the ECT or OR Mode Selector) it's unfortunate that a custom method can't be modeled after a custom selector switch we could all implement. @OVTune is such an idea to add a hardware component and get it recognized for tune map selection even plausible down the road?

Theres another guy I've seen mentioned that is handling all of the Mazda stuff and possibly some other manufacturers, if I remember correctly.

 

Mat has always juggled many things at once - part of business. But he has successfully reduced his support for any other platforms this year. Meaning while I'm sure he's still supporting prior customers, the only products you can buy from him today are for Toyota (incl. Lexus/Scion). He still has a Mazda option on the site, but that's for the Philippines only to be serviced by his #2 but since he's still supporting Mazda as a company you'll still see occasional references.

Point being, he's focused on the Toyota line of trucks as his primary focus and that's pretty clear from his posts on here and Facebook. Real question is, why should you care given the amount of time he's investing in the Tacoma!? clearly is the primary priority for him based on volume of updates and the exciting roadmap...

 

OVTune is a master tuner for all things ecutek (bmw, subaru, nissan, mazda, etc)
We pioneered tuning on the Skyactiv-G platform (mazda) and have done extensive work in that realm.
We (2 people) have also done many tunes for race cars, track cars, Mazda ND club / competitive racers.

But, for 2019, we are only doing Toyota + supporting customers from before 2019 (which may not be a toyota).
The only things available on our site from us are Toyotas (Tacoma, Tundra, tC, IS200 (lexus..toyota)). Mazda is handled by Rafael.


Regarding dyno sheets. Our dyno will be here +/- 4-5 weeks and we will have a lot more to release. (edit)

I will be towing this weekend on about a 400 mile round trip. If 105 (shudder fix) is released before then, is it advised to run the tune I already have, or can I update and then tow during the settling period of the recant flash?

 

For the guys that have been here awhile and know @bshammer0, that wasn’t necessary. He answered your question and it was answered in a thorough way. You are being overly sensitive to his response. Mat is technically everyone’s man crush if they bought the tune lol

 

Why does it matter what ovtune is doing in between tuning and running a business? Why do you need to know the workings of his business?
