Help with torx bolt removal

Oh 1/2" for sure. Didn't know they even made them in 3/8. That would be like giving an elephant high heels to walk in.

torx has to be the worst fastener known to man.

 

Totally agree. Especially for such a huge bolt. Lately, I've been a big fan of the internal square drive. I know that's just for screws, but why not make a larger version for bolts.

 

exactly, i have used one in the past and worked great.

 

Always use the highest quality Torx bit available, preferably a Snap-on, as it GREATLY REDUCES your chance of stripping out your bolt like the below.

 

I hate torx so much. I just stripped two bolts on a new chainsaw, and one of the bolts on my bed railing is permanent because it stripped going in.

 

I thought I was screwed with something like this too, used a speedout and it actually worked... i was amazed

 

I bought some tie down anchors that will fit under the bed bolts. I've had plenty of trouble with torx bits/bolts and despise the things. I haven't attempted to take the bolts out yet, rainy weather happening when I have time to do anything so I don't know firsthand what the bolts look like.

Has anyone come up with an alternative replacement bolt to get rid of the torx problem? I'm guessing they thread into "nuts" welded to the frame.

Is there a way to get some penetrating oil onto the bolt before I mess with it It sounds like I need to get some anti-seize before I start pulling them out.

 

Milwaukee brushless 1/2 in. Drive is what I use at work. Zips them right out (1400 ft lbs of torque).

 

Penetrating oil over night. PB buster or WD-40's version will work too.

And this little guy helped a lot. Allowed me to use my socket instead of my screw driver or drill.

Those things are beast. We use em at work to run timber screws.

 

^^^ This. Soaking above and below the bolt with WD40 for a day or two before cranking on it works wonders sometimes if you don’t have access to a proper torch....

 

The Torx problem is usually due to shitty tools, Get yourself a quality bit set and your problems will go away. Cheap tools (like big box stores / recent crapsman etc) usually have a bad tolerance while that is ok on a bolt it doesn’t work well with hex or torx.
